Using iMac

I have used TurboTax for several years and this is the first time I had trouble filling.
What's great about it: Everything went well until I tried e-filing.
What's not so great: E-filling on iMac had some problems.

We got a large capital gain at the end of the year and we did not find out about it until after January 15. We made our declaration of estimated tax based on our known income.
TurboTax notified me of a penalty when doing our state tax return (Wisconsin). I chose the option for TurboTax to "do a calculation." The penalty was dropped from my state tax return. I assumed TurboTax would do the same for the federal return. I found out when I printed my return that I was charged a $7.00 penalty. Too late to change things.
In the past, I believe TurboTax offered the opportunity to report your income by quarters. This handles end-of-year lump payments and eliminates interest and penalties.
TurboTax for 2013 didn't work for me on this problem.
What's great about it: Worked pretty well.
What's not so great: Late payment tax was assessed when it should not have been.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

This was my first experience after using CPAs for years. The format was logical. Led me through data I had received from other sources that I barely understood with the end result of my paying slightly less taxes than last year. I'm a firm believer now and will recommend the program to others.
What's great about it: Was much more guided than I expected. Led me through specialized areas I barely understood.
What's not so great: None seen.

If the charitable contributions could be sorted alphabetically it would be easier to fill out in successive years. As it is now, it is a matter of hunting through the entire list to find which ones need to be filled in.
