Death and Taxes...

Hate Taxes. Love TurboTax. TurboTax allows me to get my taxes done quickly and accurately so I can get back to work posthaste and generate more taxable income for next year's slaughter. Serenity Now!
What's great about it: Fast, Fast, Lord Love a Duck, Fast!
What's not so great: While "FAST", that is one hour in my life that I will never get back.

Simple and easy

When I first went to the website,, I logged in with my ID and password. It then had me start a return online. This is not what I wanted. I wanted Turbo tax downloaded on my computer like always. I had to back out and back in without logging in to purchase an downloadable copy. I eventually got it and it worked fine as always
What's great about it: Very efficient with my most valuable asset, my time!
What's not so great: Website confising

Nice to Come Out Ahead

I've used Turbo Tax now for 5 years and I'm impressed with how much it has improved. A normally complicated return took me less than 2 hours to complete and just when I thought I had claimed all I could...the uodates and reviews caught 2 more. Awesome and Thank You Turbo Tax!!!!
What's great about it: Easiest Program I've Ever Used
What's not so great: None, easy applications and easy to read and understand

Federal Tax So-So, States Seriously Flawed

It could be that the tax scheme is getting so out of hand that even computer code can't manage it, but it seems that TurboTax gets harder to wade through every year. Maybe it's time to seek a tax pro because I'm fairly certain that TT is leaving money on the table.
The KS/MO State Tax implementations are so poor that every year I say I won't purchase them again. Problem is, they're worse on paper, so I pony up. This year, because there's almost no guidance I nearly paid $800 in taxes, rather than get the $950 refund I was owed. Some of this is because of the goofy way TT fills out the forms (which in no way match how they would be filled out on paper). As a result, I wasn't being credited for taxes we Missourians were paying to Kansas. Intuit clearly isn't trying to maximize your State returns.
Seriously Intuit, this seems easy enough to code based on the information we've entered previously along with our long-standing history. These two state filings should fly through, but for some reason they're more complicated and confusing than the Federal application.
I've been using TT since the mid-90's and was generally happy with the software. Last three or four years have been pretty rough (though a few years back was far worse). I'll stick it out for now, but I'd like to see the state software improved!
What's great about it: It would be worse without it.
What's not so great: Poor KS/MO State implementations nearly cost me money

Turbo Tax 2013

I have used Turbo Tax for 6 years now and will never use any other product. Very user friendly and captures all the deductions that I was entitled to. Also like it that I can do more than one tax return with the program.....I file my sons returns each year so he doesn't need to purchase an additional program.
What's great about it: Excellent program. Gets better each year.
