Easy, no intimidation...
on April 8, 2014

This is the first time that I have ever completed my taxes on my own. In the past I have always paid a professional service to prepare my taxes. I perceived the task to be extremely difficult. TurboTax walked me through all of the points and the pop up menus provided me with a perfect explanation of each question. Super easy and I will definitely use this software from here on out to prepare and file my income taxes.
What's great about it: Easy
Pros: I had a baby, My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

got the job done

It gets the job done. I find that I have to look through my papers a few times to make sure i get everything but it it time well spent. In two days I get my taxes done and I am confident in knowing that it is done right because I double check and the program checks me also. I like this tax return program and will continue to use it.
What's great about it: It works if you got the info
What's not so great: I have to look up info but worth the time
Pros: I moved

Easy software to use

Wish there was a faster way to switch between form view and input view when you want to return to a specific form or line item. Don't like that I have to go back to the topic list to hunt for a particular form's input.
Some updates should have been been available sooner - particular Schedule D cap gains calculations
What's not so great: Switching between forms and input screens
Pros: I bought or sold investments

AZ RETURN WAS INCOMPLETE AND REFUND TOO LOW
on April 8, 2014
Posted by: PDG46XL
AZ Form 140 line B6 requires a schedule of payors/amounts of non-AZ tax-exempt interest from municipal bonds. TT created such a schedule for 2012 AZ return, but not for 2013; but TT flagged the lack of that schedule as an error!
Arizona allows certain charitable contributions to be deducted directly from one's taxes on AZ Form 140 Line 25. TT provided this option and created the necessary forms to do this for 2012 AZ return, but provided nothing for 2013. Thus my AZ refund calculated by TT was $400 less than it should have been.
So I could not e-file the AZ return from TT as I did last year; instead I had to create my own AZ 140, tax-exempt interest schedule, and charitable contribution forms, and file by mail.
Since Turbo Tax did not provide the full functionality for AZ form 140 as TT had done previously, I think AZ customers should receive some type of refund.
What's great about it: 1040- did not have to input addresses of charitable donees
What's not so great: TT did not create all forms needed for 2013 AZ return, as it did for 2012

obviously remembering children is expected. But remembering charities and banks is helpful to make sure I have all my forms.
What's great about it: able to import last year data
What's not so great: some steps must be repeated when you come back to enter more data.

Printing Problem
on April 8, 2014
Posted by: Lorrreee
I finally had to print the tax returns all 34 pages, from the pdf file. I am not computer literate. Had to call my daughter for her input. She told me to go to the pdf. file to print. So I wasted ink and paper on the first print attempt. Not at all happy about that. And wasted a few hours I'll never get back. And at my age, time is a priceless commodity. Not to mention the anxiety and frustration, that probably served to cut a few days from my lifespan. Otherwise TurboTax is a much simpler way of doing your taxes then in the past, with a quill pen and parchment paper.
Have a nice day.
What's great about it: Everything from last year propagates. And you do the math.
What's not so great: My returns started to print, but after 20 pages, I looked at a page and saw that the bottom line(s) were not printing.
