Easier Than Letting Someone else do it

I enjoyed the experience of using TurboTax. Its WAY better than going to someone to do my taxes and paying them an outrageous amount of money. I can do my taxes, pay a smaller amount and get my money when I want it.
What's great about it: Gave me step-by-step of what was needed to be done
What's not so great: If you don't know some of the "lingo" you may get lost
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Problem with age on retirement payments

I called because I would answer that I was over 591/2 an, I save it and when I went back it had me less than 591/2. I called Turbo tax with this error in February and it is still on my worksheet incorrect. No one ever contacted me about this error. I have been using Turbo tax for over 12 years now and have not encountered problems like this year

Overall turbotax is a great product. Even if transmittal failure occurs customer support walks you smoothly through fixing the problem. My family members have used turbotax for 5 years and love the products.
What's great about it: Super easy to use turbotax products.
What's not so great: Transmission failure

Have used Turbo Tax for years, first time I've had a problem e-filing, couldn't get TT updates to download for e-filing to occur. My technical son figured out through TT chat room, not sure I could have done it
What's great about it: good explanations, easy to follow data flow

Sequencing in income was a little cumbersome- need to put 1099 forms right after W-2 forms information. At least that would seem logical to me.
Very good transfer of information to state tax return.
Helpful information about best way to file; e.g. married filing separately or married filing jointly.

The program for federal and estimated taxes should be a separate section not a subset of other sections. It was difficult to find and include in the preparation of documents. You should also provide for future federal and state estimated tax payments that may be required for capital gains occurring throughout the year that can't be estimated at tax time.
Also the deductions for energy saving devices, e.g heat pumps are not defined in Turbo Tax. The manufacturer has a supporting letter that the device is eligible for tax credits and I picked geothermal which I hope is correct.
Having taken the time to comment, I look forward to these improvements next year.

The planning for next year is weak. Just prints our estimated tax payments if all stays the same. No way to adjust for the current year being exceptional.
Didn't see the summary comparisons to others of similar income that used to be part of the package. Those were interesting and sometimes helpful.
Turbo did respond quickly to Minnesota's late change in tax law.
What's great about it: Loading last year's material and workin from there.
What's not so great: Didn't handle my VERY small consultng business very easily.
