Covering all details

TurboTax is easy to load and simple to use. The questions are easy to understand and it jars your memory about things you would have forgotten. I liked where it checked for updated forms that you would not have without TurboTax. Thanks for building a great program and I am a repeat user.
What's great about it: simple and straight forward

What's great about it: I have used it for a number of years and its easy to follow
What's not so great: The area on selling stocks was hard to follow
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Difficult Update Process!!!!
on April 8, 2014

I have used Turbo Tax in the past and have loved it. However, this year's filing of Tax Year 2013 was horrific!! CD needed multiple updates......many error messages.....try again.....and try again.....and try again.
You all should be thankful that I'm persistent!!!
Will probably go through another venue next year....
What's great about it: transferred all previous data automatically, transferred all financial institutions automatically
What's not so great: Terrible, horrible update process when using the CD. Extremely time consuming and frustrating!!

turbotax -new vs old

The biggest problems are that the older years of Turbotax were a lot easier to navigate. Yes I understand that IRS tax documents have gotten more complex. However, that is Turbotax's job to figure that out and make it easy for the user. Otherwise, why not just struggle though the IRS forms yourself?
In particular, when I thought I was done with the Indiana State return and saved it, I discovered that I had a change to make. So I clicked on the top STATE tax Tab. If you click on State return at that point, it directs you only to the end where you were when you finished. It will not let you go back, there is no tabs to click or anything. I finally just went to the View, Forms page and figured out what state form I thought I needed to correct the infomation on, then went to supporting docs. That seemed to work. However, I am a fairly seasoned Turbotax user (way over 10 years). The average or new user would not likely have been able to figure this out. There is no reason an easy means is not available to get to any place on a State return. The Federal return shows you the main menu where you can edit, view or work on any topic. No such thing seems to exist on State return menu.
What's great about it: Still gets the job done,
What's not so great: Almost impossible to figure out how to get back to edit State return after you reach the end of it.

Fussing with the Stock Market

Really quite simple, but I spent several extra hours trying to find loopholes. No such luck! The e-file procedure was super easy and immediately accepted.
What's great about it: Not many changes from prior years so it is easy to prepare for and follow.
What's not so great: I forget how to access "help" on different cells so trial and error took more time.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Comparison to prior year

Perhaps I was not getting the greatest advantage of deductions in the past editions but requests for info on at risk when the final review was done were complicated and confusing. Had to continually refer back to forms on Schedule C and redo the 'interview' process. Made me anxious about accuracy of product.
What's great about it: Layout is excellent - ability to move between forms and easystep
What's not so great: Order in which info was asked for under schedule c

I run a business out of my home, have the usual bank and brokerage accounts and distributions from IRA. With all that, Turbo Tax makes it easy and you feel comfortable when you push the send button.
What's great about it: It steps you through the whole process with easy to understand forms / questions.
What's not so great: I got confused with the IRS instructions on calculating the refund you received in '13.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
