Some trouble electronically filing
on April 8, 2014

Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Asks you questions, fills out your tax return. This was the first year in many years of using TurboTax that I ran into a bug. It kept telling me it couldn't efile because TurboTax wasn't updated so I would do "Check of updates" and it would find an update and install it. If I clicked checked for update immediately after updating it would tell me it found an update and the cycle would start all over. I finally reinstalled the program, stayed away from the "check of updates" button and it finally let me efile. But it was frustrating for a while.
What's great about it: grabs all my stuff from last year and makes this year easy
What's not so great: there was a bug in updating process that kept me from filing electronically

turbo tax works great, it lets you go back and correct issues or review items at any step, after the first year it transfers all your data from the last time you filed saving time the next time around
What's great about it: walks me through every stet
What's not so great: I have to take time to sit at a desk 1 morning

Good experience overall

I was very happy with TurboTax except for the matter of entering charitable deductions. My wife and I donate to over 150 different organizations, and TurboTax does not allow me to list the organizations in any order except that in which they were first entered. It would be extremely helpful to be able to sort them by name so that I could easily verify that I have not skipped any organization nor entered one twice.
What's great about it: Handles all calculations
What's not so great: Awkward to enter large numbers of charitable deductions
Pros: I bought or sold investments

2013 Tax Review
on April 8, 2014

I have been using Turbotax for about 20 years. It simplifies the return in that it fills out all the forms with a minimum amount of extra data entry. Uses last year's data as input to current year. However, when it comes to carry-overs from prior years it asks for this to be entered manually. I would expect that it would do that automatically. The forms for foreign pensions (other than Canada) ask for zip codes that are US style and keeps showing errors for any other zip code forms. This also prevents e-filing. When it went to e-file, it took me all the way through the process including taking payment for my state e-file fee and then it told me I could not e-file the state because certain forms had to be mailed in. I had to get an agent on the phone to walk me through the problem and in the end she said I had to file Federal by mail as well because of the State problem. This wasted a lot of time. Hopefully it will be fixed for 2014 returns.
What's great about it: Uses prior year data, easy to follow step by step
What's not so great: Carry over data has to be entered by hand. Foreign pensions are an issue. E file had a problem

At age 60, I may finally go to a tax expert in the future even though the taxes should be easier as you retire!
What's great about it: Given the tax system, fairly easy to use.
What's not so great: Very few explanations during the 1099 forms.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
