Turbo-tax review
on April 8, 2014

I've been using TurboTax for years and appreciate the ease of entering (or importing) the information. I do NOT like that I cannot see when changes made create other issues that are not apparent until the end - requiring me to go back and try to figure out why a new form was required or my overall numbers changed
What's great about it: user friendly
What's not so great: doesn't let you see what's going on beind the scenes
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

We have used TURBO TAX for several years and have found your service to be the best, when compared to H&R Block!
Software is very thorough and asks ALL the right questions. We feel Turbo Tax gives us the best results for paying low taxes and receiving maximum refunds allowed by law.
Customer support is OUTSTANDING!
We will continue to use TURBO TAX in future years.

What's great about it: Easy to transfer personal data from 2012 Returns to 2013.
What's not so great: Had to pay extra for processing NC (state) Return.

What's great about it: Easy use of program
What's not so great: To much info required for Charity donations

2013 taxes

This is much better than having to go to a professional. You still have to gather the same information and that's where the work is.
What's great about it: Easy to use.
What's not so great: Last year I paid for state e-file and it was rejected.

Simple, Quick and Accurate--Who could ask for more

Really has improved over the years. A joy (if there is such a thing) to do your taxes and save a bunch of money over an accountant, with better results. (you understand what you did)
What's great about it: Clear language
What's not so great: That it has to exist...

Eases a trying experience
on April 8, 2014

I retired in the middle of the year and moved from North Carolina to Massachusetts, which meant filing three tax returns - one federal and two different states. TurboTax made the process of choosing the forms a breeze. Otherwise it would have been difficult at best and a nightmare at worst.
I have used TurboTax for years. This year's filing was the most complicated by far because of the combination of retiring (and so changing the nature of my income) and moving from one state to another (requiring filing in two states). TurboTax handled it all easily, including some special provisions in NC tax law that apply to only a small set of taxpayers, which happened to include me.
This year, perhaps because of the complexity of my situation, I noticed that TurboTax's accompanying explanations are generally very good and have improved over the years.
The experience was not perfect because there was a confusing issue of apportioning dividend and capital gain income to the two states. It wasn't clear how TurboTax did that, and TurboTax's choices were not obviously correct. However, it may not have been TurboTax's fault. At one point I called the Massachusetts Dept of Revenue for clarification. I got a very friendly and helpful person who spent a fair amount of time trying to figure it out and ended up not being able to do so. It did become clear that what TurboTax did was a reasonable choice.
Also, by experimenting with several legally acceptable alternatives for reporting income to the two states, I saw that TurboTax had chosen the combination that resulted in the lowest combination of taxes. The amount I saved from that far exceeded the cost of TurboTax itself.
TurboTax is an excellent product, and I recommend it without hesitation.
What's great about it: Greatly simplifies navigating the forest of forms.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved, I bought or sold investments

Great project. I have been using it for over 10 years.
What's great about it: importing last year's info saves so much time.
What's not so great: Wish there was a way to alphabetize charities.
