Thanks TurboTax

I had a feeling of confidence as I progressed through my tax return. Step-by-step guidance helps a lot, with appropriate double-checking to make sure I didn't overlook something.
What's great about it: Good navigation step-by-step and transfer to forms when needed.
What's not so great: None

Printed documents
on April 7, 2014

I will not be using this next year. I paid for the program and then have to pay additional money to file state taxes because you (I feel delibertly) make printing any of the documents needed to mail a return to the state impossible. I have spend the last 2 hours trying to print my returns and still can't
What's great about it: easy to use
What's not so great: your print function is horrible

Confidence

So well worth the money. I couldn't do the taxes with it. I would have to take my taxes somewhere to have them done and I'm sure it would cost me much more than what I paid for Turbo Tax. With Turbo Tax, I can do it myself.
What's great about it: Every year my taxes get a little more complicated, and Turbo Tax handles it all.
What's not so great: None

More than 10 years with tt and probably done
on April 7, 2014

As a long time user it is hard for me to say that this year was a huge disappointment. I did my taxes in March, submitted them electronically and received the desired message that my federal taxes had been accepted.
When my refund did not appear I checked with both the IRS and TT only to find that neither believed I had filed. Fortunately I did this before the filing deadline. What is worse is that all my work which had been saved had been blown off my computer including the prior year's return from which carryovers were needed. The situation was obviously not one which could be handled by an automated system. Trying to find an actual person to talk to at TT was something I never did figure out. As a customer for over 10 yrs I found this more than disappointing. Let's just say unacceptable
I didn't know if I had possibly been hacked, whether I had a hardware issue or what caused this, but there was no one in sight from TT to help. I do believe that the ultimate problem was my desktop, but as long as I am paying for the service it does seem that someone should be able to help me track the problem down.
On another issue, the automatic updates did not include the sales tax update so I once again had to navigate the not so good help in order to find that it was available if you did it manually.
Very sorry to say this, but help is needed when it is needed and one should not have to navigate a mine field to get it when paying a premium for a service that is available at much lower cost elsewhere
What's great about it: Generally intuitive and maintains on going records for long time users
What's not so great: Help line is useless when you are desparately in need of immediate help

First year after retirement
on April 7, 2014
Posted by: lahines100
More than 70 years old, retirement was mid year with 401k being transferred to an investment account and an annuity plus a withdrawal. Made charitable contributions and quarterly tax payments. Turbo tas anticipated all instances, correctly disbursed to the correct IRS forms and performed all calculations. At completion and prior to submitting to IRS, performed a check to determine if any deductions or other details had been overlooked.
Turbo Tax can be filled out using the Wizard which guides the filer through all details in sequence, or the filer can skip around and complete those portions for which they have the information. TurboTax offers audit defense that handles questions from the IRS. TurboTax assists in getting the filing PIN from the IRS arranges for making payments using a credit card, and provides notifiction when the IRS accepts your tax returns. All these details turn out to be simple fill-in-the-blank procedures, making TurboTax a pleasure to use.
What's great about it: Investments, Social Security, Medical, Donations
What's not so great: Some investment could use more description.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Excellent But Minor Problem
on April 7, 2014
Posted by: repai
I had a Federal Taxable income due to company payments on life insurance. They showed up on my Federal W-2 from the company but were not taxable for PA. No amount was shown on line 16 on my form but TurboTax insisted I had income. I had to play around with TurboTax to get it to accept the correct info. Part of the problem I think is TurboTax says not to enter anything if the section is blank on the w-2 form but in this case I think you must enter 0.00
What's great about it: Easy to Use
What's not so great: Problem with PA w-2 Info
