Tax filing made easy
on April 6, 2014

The steps and instructions are to follow as long as you have all your records collected. The programs allows for breaks, has the ability to save for later and give the opportunity to return later and resume where you left off
What's great about it: clear directions easy to follow made filing tax returns easy and painless
What's not so great: this is the third year I have used Turbo Tax and it only gets better

Return to Minnesota
on April 6, 2014
Posted by: RussellPetricka
I was asked to return to my Federal return and amend it in order to transfer the required values to my Minnesota Return. However, by waiting two weeks, I was able to do my Minnesota Return without having to use the amended version of my Federal Return.
What's great about it: There were no surprises.
What's not so great: I had to return to my Federal Return and amend it in order to get my State Return done accurately. n
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Stressful but great

This is the first time I have had to file taxes by myself in 40 years. My husband always did them. Turbo Tax guided me through this process which I feared and was avoiding. It also made me realize I need to organize my important information so I don't have to do the calculations and searching at the last minute. My husband, before he passed, used Turbo Tax every year. I am so glad he told me to do it this way rather than hire someone.
What's great about it: Great process and help; easy to walk through
What's not so great: I cannot think of a con at this point

TurboTax 2013

No where as good as previous editions. Doesn't provide the option to sign out at any time and them come back. So you can work at the return in several time frames.I found you could just close out and then come but previous year prompts were very reassuring.
The VLF is no longer printed on the automobile registration form. You have to go to the CA DMV site, enter your automobile license tag number, have the site calculate the VLF ;then print it out.

TurboTax has been a reliable "friend" at a trying time for anyone...your interview process ensures that I leave nothing out...your checking process is reassuring.....I e-filed my fed return, but was too cheap to e-file my state return....mailed that in....
What's great about it: carries everything over from previous years
What's not so great: none that I can think of
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Still Great After All These Years!

I've been using TurboTax since the DOS years and it just keeps getting better. The interview approach is excellent for beginners, and the ability to circumvent the interview function is great for experienced tax preparers. The only quandary I have is that it used to give you the opportunity to download your W2. I didn't seem to have the option to do so this year. It could be that it checks the W2 when you put the employer number in and automatically skips the function if the employer does not offer downloads. However, if this is the case it should tell you it checked. I can't imagine TT removing a time saving function without good reason.
What's great about it: Easy to Use and Highly Flexible
What's not so great: No option to download W2
