Software Challenges
on February 1, 2014

Finally got the software to work and hopefully calculations were accurate, I pray I am not audited. Product would not download state forms and updates, kept getting error messages. After temporarily disabling several software products on my computer, firewall and protective software was able to get the product to work. Never had this issue in the past since I have been using Turbo Tax for several years.
What's great about it: Software when working properly straight forward and easy to use
What's not so great: Glitches, Could not get proper technical support when needed to resolve tech issues
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Got married this year and didn't know whether to file jointly or separately. I was able to complete the wizard both ways and increased my refund by over $500.
What's great about it: Love the import from previous years and this years version was especially easy to use.
What's not so great: I still don't understand the tax lingo to know if I completed my forms correctly.

I've used TurboTax for several years now and I wish more software products were as simple as TurboTax is. It's complicated but makes everything easy for the end user! Terrific product!
What's great about it: easy to understand, fast, gives you confidence in your filing
What's not so great: Needed to remove some items and re-enter since system wouldn't accept 0.00 and caught 0.00 as errors

Form presentation on computer screen, password?,
on February 1, 2014

Mac owner 1. After most of the form in completed, when the program brings the file forms on screen, the $ numbers show only the first half of the first number on the left of that number. It did the same last year as I remember. Tried printing out the forms and they printed correctly - same as last year. 2. Had trouble e-filing the first time (Friday 1/31/14) and it went through the next day (2/1/14). 3. Had difficulty saving: a. kept bringing up the requirement for a password, but wouldn't immediately go into the passworded file that I had been working on (after I did the 1st password request.) b. So, went to appllications and clicked on the file that I wanter, and it requested that I do a password choice. It didn't let me: click on the file, fill in a password. It kept making me use a new password. So I wrote in the original password and the program then that there all ready was afile with that name and did I want to overwrite it. I did but shouldn't I be able to work on a file, save, and continue working on that file? c. Today, 2/1/14, after being told yesterday that the e-file wouldn't work and that I may have to mail the forms to the IRS/State, I went to my TurboTax file, it asked for a password on the file that I saved yesterday without a "password". Weird. 4. Good ideas about Password protection on the file, just need a little tweak. 5. Did have a question about required % payments from retirement accounts. I have a PERS (Oregon) monthly payment which is not a "required payment - over 70 1/2, but there wasn't a choice for this. So I left the blanks, blank.
Anyway, I've finally sent off the forms e-filing and it went through!!!!!
What's great about it: Mostly great help going through the forms, Loved the pricing on donations.
What's not so great: See Review
