A learning experience

I have used Turbo Tax since 2009 and always used the DVD version. Last year I switched to the on line version, big mistake. I was not happy with the way the online version worked. I seemed different from the previous years using the DVD version. This year I went back to the DVD version and I am still paying for last years mistake, the DVD version could not find all my info from the previous year so I had to fill it all in manually. I will stick with the DVD version from here on out until they stop making it.
What's great about it: Easy to use, consistent year to year
What's not so great: Do not switch from the DVD version to the online version from year to year.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

1) After filing my federal form electronically, I could not find an option to file my Colorado state return by mail.
2) I paid my federal tax due by credit card but the program still said I had to mail in a 1040-V Payment Voucher. According to the form, this is only true when I mail in a check.
What's great about it: Ease of use continues to improve year over year
What's not so great: Would not give me options at one point

Have always used TurboTax; every year it's easier

This year I received the best refund in the last 4
What's great about it: Takes only a few hours
What's not so great: Sometimes it's too quick. You have to stop and read details
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

can't print returns? really? had to pdf them, email them to work then print them at work.

One small item

The instructions on the cover page of the state return did not say what the instructions on the state payment voucher said. The cover page said to write SSN on check and the payment voucher instructions said to to write only the last four digits of SSN. No big deal.

I like how entries are available from last year, including charitable organizations and their addresses. Personal details are also remembered which makes the process go faster.
My tax form requires many forms. I like how Turbo Tax determines which forms need to be filled out.
I also like how I don't need to read the instructions for these forms which is painful.
I was surprised when Turbo Tax told me I could not e-file my return (because of a certain detail of my return). Then in the next step, Turbo Tax started asking me if I wanted to e-file??? when I replied no, it kept prompting me to efile because it was so much easier. It was frustrating because I needed to go back and reread instructions to make sure I couldn't efile. No big deal, but the program certainly has a few bugs in it.
