another fine job by turbo tax

i spent a vast amount of time gathering and entering my itemized deductions only to have to take the standard deduction. i would like to have seen what the itemized deductions looked like and why i needed to take the standard deduction. i thought for sure with all of my medical deductions that i would have qualified for the itemized deduction.
What's great about it: i really liked the step by step process. easy to folow and complete.
What's not so great: would like to see comparison of itemized versus standard deductions

Have used TurboTax in the past. I started using on online tax preparation program, but ended up going back to TurboTax. The online program was just not helpful as Turbo.

Can handle many very complex situations

I'm a CPA who works in a financial position in industry (not preparing tax returns other than for my own company's#. I've used TurboTax for over 10 years to prepare my own returns as even I can miss something, and who wants to prepare paper returns - ug!
Although using the interview method of preparing your returns in TurboTax requires answering many questions that aren't relevant to your situation, I don't know of a better way for TurboTax to do what it does without asking all these questions. Taxes can be extremely complicated, so it must ask the questions. Of course, you can always by-pass the interview method and choose the areas you want to cover, but you do risk missing something you hadn't thought of #which would have been the case with me with the cashless exercise of my ISO's).
What's great about it: It is very comprehensive, even handled the cashless exercise and the ensuring AMT tax and future credits on my ISO's.
What's not so great: The comprehensive nature of the program requires you to review numerous areas that aren't relevant to you.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Did my college son's taxes and the Personal Information section asked if he was being claimed on another person's taxes (answered YES), yet the forms had him as NO. Had to go into the forms editor and manually change the status. Glitch?

Great overall product - gets the job done quick and has a great check feature as well as an AUDIT CHECK
What's great about it: Great have used for 21 years
What's not so great: cost is a bit hign (considering how many are purchased each year)

My Sixth year Using TuroboTax

This is my sixth year to use TurboTax and I have always been completely satisfied. Improvements have been made each year to help ease the pain of filing tax returns. The IRS could learn a thing or two from the TurboTax people when it comes to the "easy to understand" thing. Too bad the government didn't come to the TurboTax people to set up the AMC web-site.
What's great about it: Fast, Easy and Correct
What's not so great: Printing and forms options should be reviewed up front

A History of Turbo Tax

A little over 20 years ago our home flooded and so I started using Turbo Tax because of anticipated complications in filing. I have used Turbo Tax ever since. I am now retired but was a Controller at a manufacturing plant and found that it was extremely easy to let Turbo Tax guide me along so that I missed nothing. Rarely I have found that I am not totally sure as to how to treat either unusual income or expense but relied on Turbo Tax to clear my consternation. I have recommended your program to fellow workers and they have been pleased. I use Quicken to record my financial activity and find Turbo Tax works well with your other programs.
What's great about it: complete and informative with definitions and explanations
What's not so great: some years have been extremely slow in loading program
