Poorer quality software than in past years
on April 5, 2014

In the past it prompted to check for updates each time. This year I had to manually do updates. Schedule D kept asking me to review it and trying to up-sell me to the Premier version. Additional annoyances are not what I need when doing taxes! I got a W2 corrected and had I not realized it imported the wrong information there was nothing in the workflow which asked if I had a W2 (corrected) form. The workflow of the software just wasn't the same high quality I've come to expect of Turbo Tax. Every year has been better and better, but not this year.
What's great about it: "Easy" questions.
What's not so great: Auto software update didn't happen as in years past, got into workflow loops frequently
Pros: I bought or sold investments

This software rocks, if not for TurboTax I would have sleepless nights. Now, I can sleep better with TurboTax. I use it every single year. It even bailed me out of a jackpot of a four year stretch of extensions.
What's great about it: Saves me a lot of reading of Special Publication 17
What's not so great: I'm too stupid to know what you are talking about half the time.

Can't do taxes without it. Only thing better would be a flat tax.
What's great about it: Almost idiot proof
What's not so great: replys on help line take a long, long time.

Fabulous File!

TurboTax made filing taxes an absolute breeze. This was my first year trying it; I'd heard good things but was that overly reluctant person who insisted on doing taxes the old-fashioned way (i.e., filled out forms manually!)
Never again. Turbo Tax from here on out. Took half the time or less -- even as a newbie to the software -- and made the process so streamlined and simple. And I"ve never felt more confident and secure that my returns are accurate and error-free. Thank you, Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: Easy to use, walks you through each and every step, does all the calculations for you for amazing time savings,
What's not so great: Can't think of a thing I didn't like!

Finally got it done.

The local RITA form did not complete correctly and would not let me override the program.
At the completion of the federal form the review for errors would not let me progress until I corrected the Federal Carryover worksheet. Then I could not get any help as to what was required.or where to get the information.
What's great about it: Ease of use; forms completed in logical sequence.
What's not so great: State form asked if I contributed to the OTTA fund then automatically checked yes when I did not this year. I moved on.

The printing / filing process is clunky - it is not clear when the return should be printed, and how to get back after printing, perhaps prematurely. And you need to realize that you can only print through the preview process. It would make more sense if at the end, the forms would be brought up for review (with an option to print), and then you would go on to do the filing or prep for filing.
What's great about it: works well
What's not so great: costly add-ons -- multiple states, and state e-filing is costly
