Another easy year doing my taxes with Turbo Tax. The walk thru makes everything a breeze. It covers everything & the helpful "Learn More" on a category you're not sure related to you made it more than clear.
What's not so great: Highlights of changes for this year's tax laws related to your filings from the previous year would be helpful

There is no reason why Government programs should be advertised on Turbo Tax. Your purpose is tax preparation and there is no reason to get into anything else.

I moved through my federal and two state returns this year as quickly as I have for more than a decade. Being prompted regarding what I had for information on my 2012 return was very helpful - it caused me to dig out a couple of papers I had missed while gathering things this year. I would have liked a little more information in places, though. One of my state returns (non-resident) seemed rather too simple. If I could have had more insight regarding how they viewed income, what their thresholds were and such I would have been more comfortable.
What's great about it: Easy data transfer, easy to follow instructions
What's not so great: More information regarding what each section meant and how it was to be calculated would have been nice
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I've been a loyal user of TurboTax for 10 years and the product just keeps getting better and better. I don't know how anyone could possibly do their taxes any other way! The audit-risk estimate and the archiving of all my returns in one place, right on my PC, also gives me peace of mind. I've never had to use the audit support service, but I'm reassured that Intuit stands behind its product.
What's great about it: detailed instructions and explanations
What's not so great: can't think of any
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

When TurboTax data gathers 1099-Div, it combines ordinary and non-taxable dividends on the recap page. The tax-exempt dividend (line 10) does not show up in the correct place until the final 1040 is produced. I wasted a lot of time double checking this entry.
I also had a hard time getting the calculation for state and local sales tax deduction; Turbo tax kept showing only the lesser deduction. Had I not known about this, I would have missed a $1600 deduction. (Especially problematic given that Texas is not listed in IRS 1090 Instructions, p A-16; states with additional local sales tax).
I would also like to know how Turbo Tax calculates the amount of final taxes due. The number in your calculation does not comport with tax tables in 1040 Instructions.
What's great about it: Makes short work of the task, with confidence intact.
What's not so great: Kept missing my state & local sales tax deduction
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

No way to enter the correct code for Form 1099-R line 7. You say to end code P but that is for 2012. Code 8 is for 2013 but when entered, TT shows it as an error and won't allow completion. Very very frustrating!! Who's checking these things??
What's not so great: see below

Fairly simple to use, step by step process.
What's great about it: Pretty easy to use!
What's not so great: Could include state filing for the price paid.

I've been faithful user -- but just spent plenty to file taxes for myself and elderly mother (Turbo Deluxe + extra state + e-filing fees). Will be thinking about other options next year.
What's great about it: transers previous year's data; easy to complete
What's not so great: add-on e-filing, state form costs
