Instructions were vague and incomplete.
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions
What's not so great: Missing instructions on portion of State filing. Asked if I wanted to send in and have CA tax bill me?

Annoying, unhelpful but gets the job done.

The program went into an endless loop demanding that I enter a certain number, then not accepting it and demanding it again. There was no context-sensitive help so it was impossible to determine the cause of the complaint.
What's great about it: Sensible orderly entry of relevant items
What's not so great: No context-sensitive help--demands an error be fixed with no guidance on why at all.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Keeps getting better and better!

I've used TurboTax since it was a 2 floppy disk system on an IBM 286 system. I think it was 1997. Every year, the app keeps getting easier to use, richer featured, and help is one click away. For simple or middling difficult returns (both types I've done over the years), this app does the job very well. I look forward to doing my 2014 returns with TurboTax.
What's great about it: Easy step-by-step interview
What's not so great: IRS rules take too long to wade through

Turbo Tax helps me complete my taxes each year, questions easy to understand and complete; takes me through required entries
What's great about it: simplified complex tax laws
What's not so great: precious time nonetheless
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I could do my whole return except for Form 8938, which Turbo Tax does not support. There ought to be a way that it could be done manually since Turbo Tax does not support it and still get it within the program so that the return could be e-filed. If that is available now I could never find the answer on how to do this. I did bring the form up and fill it out on Turbo Tax manually, but it was not included in the print out.

Better Every Year

My returns are not complicated, however, I always make stupid mistakes when I do them myself. I have used TurboTax for 3 or 4 years, now, and it has made my life a lot easier in this respect. It seems to get easier every year, and I can't imagine ever using any other software to prepare and file my returns.
What's great about it: Love that last year's info is imported into this year's questionnaire, so you can easily reference
What's not so great: Never sure which deductions I can take, so need to go through page by page, but understand this is my preference.
