I cannot compare to other tax products as I have only used Turbo Tax. I can say that everything is straight forward, step by step and easy to understand. I like that.
What's great about it: Straight forward and easy
What's not so great: None.

Since the federal government continually makes it more and more difficult each year for the average tax payer to pay their required taxes, at least Turbo tax takes some of the aggravation out of that process. I'd recommend Turbo tax to anyone doing their personal tax return.
What's great about it: Die and pay taxes, this is the way to go
What's not so great: Paying taxes
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

TurboTax Review
on April 5, 2014

Generally, everything is easy to follow. However, the pieces on investment income that we had from our Mutual Funds were difficult to know if I completed correctly. Some of this may be to the forms we received but it also was not the easiest to follow. There were also areas that I thought it would be easier to revisit and make corrections/changes.
What's great about it: Most items are easy to follow
What's not so great: Investment Income piece is not that straight forward

Good Experience

As I have been a customer for multiple years, I would recommend offering a loyalty discount if the following year software is purchased at the time of filing as this provides Turbo Tax revenue and the taxpayer piece of mind that next year is covered.
What's great about it: Easy step by step preparation
What's not so great: A little pricey compared to other software available

Certain things I would expect
on April 5, 2014
Posted by: kenrg
I would expect things like "capital loss carry forward" and "Charitable contribution carryover" to be more automatic from last years return since I used TTax last year too. In that section, if I have no carry forwards, why doesn't TTax simply come back and tell me: We've reviewed last years return and we see no carry forward for this item available. Instead, TTax leaves me uncertain, having to pour over the PDF of last year's return in frustration looking for the place where that would even be found and eventually perhaps even giving up.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Annoying for repeat users
on April 5, 2014
Posted by: UserSince1984
I have been using TurboTax since 1984, and it has gone through a lot of changes over the years. Ten years ago my taxes were more complex, but it took LESS time to prepare them with TurboTax. The program needs an "expert mode" that transfers more info from previous years and sets more default answers to questions which have the same responses year after year
What's great about it: very comprehensive
What's not so great: not enough info imported from previous year

TurboTax 2013 Recommendation
on April 5, 2014
Posted by: Ughhuh
Pertaining to the "con". A pension received for life only contains information on the payment. We assume we must check the item that shows no penalty even though it is confusing since we are not specifically controlling the pension and don't know whether a minimum withdrawal is applicable. This has been my biggest question on completion of TurboTax for two years running. .
What's great about it: Generally good, simple instructions
What's not so great: Exceedingly poor directions concerningf 1099-R minimum withdrawal.
