2013 Turbo Tax (TT) rediscovered

Let's start with the great things that TT does: walks you through most situations that even an ordinary tax payer might not have, ie. rental properties, partnership income and expense and application of federal taxes paid.
It's this last part which has changed and caused a lot of headache. To get the foreign tax credit, most beneficial, one apparently has to fill out an additional form, Form 1116, and TT didn't lead you to supply that information so the software could automatically fill out the form. I was disappointed to say the least, as I pressed the "file" button and was led back to fix the form which was barely had any info on it. When you go back to the interview, it doesn't ask the questions to fill out the form either.
What's great about it: As usual, TT has done a great job of walking one through most situations. I have the deluxe version and it was fine.
What's not so great: This year it changed some reporting features on Foreign taxes paid and I wasn't notified until I tried to file my return

Turbo Tax has been my go to product for 10 years! Even when my taxes got complicated last year, it was still the easiest and most efficient way to file. E filing made my refund come so fast! Its the way to do it!

Turbo Tax 2014

Overall, Turbo Tax was better than I remembered. I tried using it several years ago and was more confused than I was with H & R Block software. This year, however, Block failed me miserably. It was so confusing, that we dumped that version and bought Turbo Tax. I hated to pay for two programs, but it was worth it to discover that Turbo Tax was much easier for me to use this year.
What's great about it: Better than expected
What's not so great: Replies to questions missed the target
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Once again a great product

TurboTax Deluxe is a great product year in and year out. I'm retired but have some self-employment income; my spouse is an employee with a side investment. urboTax Deluxe makes sure we account for all income, but even better, makes sure we get every deduction and credit we are entitled to. I like the way it walks me through all our deductions. I am definitely ordering it for the 2014 tax year.
What's great about it: Walks me through all the steps I need
What's not so great: Occasionally overly particular on error check

Not as smooth as in the past

Turbotax is still a very straightforward and efficient way to deal with taxes, and the ability to jump around in inputting information is very useful and time-preserving. I like it.
However this time I had grief in the very last step, the e-filing of the return, possibly because I use a Mac accruing to the FAQs I read. I did get the return in after booting the computer, something I hate doing.

What's great about it: Still basically use friendly and complete.

I have been satisfied with Turbo tax for years. I only go outside of Turbo tax if there is a complicated tax year involved.
