Champion to the End
on April 4, 2014
Posted by: GrumpyFelix
I am a procrastinator intentionally because I intend to hold out on the government or usually use my refund for vacation time. I entitled my segment "Champion to the End" because by the time I get to taxes, I am well prepared with all documentation and the program itself will or should be updated fully. It makes it easer when entering data and calculations are on auto. I stil have to input data on Schedule C manually but that has been going on for years. But I can put up with that!
What's great about it: A very accurate way to go when you procrastinate!!!
What's not so great: A manuel fill-in on Schedule C as usual...
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Reduced My Tax Anguish to Tolerable
on April 4, 2014

Have been using TTax for over 25 years. Saved me over $300 the first time. Been using it ever since. Easy to use and takes the mental cramps away so you can concentrate of reducing your tax obligation. Biggest concern is the number of updates. What happens if you file your forms and more updates come out afterwards? Leaves you wondering if there was an error in the return you previously filed. Otherwise, I think it is a fantastic product and heartily recommend it!
What's great about it: Believe in its accuracy and ease of use
What's not so great: Updates are quick and plentiful, but why so many?

Fine, generally, but too much self-promotion and too many hurdles to get to the point of printing my return for mailing.

THE APP ALLOWED ME TO STOP AND LOOK UP LOST MATERIALS AND DOCUMENTS OR TAKE NEEDED BREAKS IF JUST FOR A SHORT NAP WITHOUT SHUTING ME OUT. ITS NON JUDGEMENTAL EXECUTION MADE IT A LIFETIME COMPANION.
What's great about it: REGARDLESS OF MY ERRORS NEVER JUDGEMENTAL
What's not so great: THE TOO LONG ENDING TRIED MY PATIENCE

I'll certainly use it next year. I love that it saves this year's numbers for comparison.
What's great about it: Totally clear instructions - easy to stop then start again. Prompts like, "not common" very helpful.
What's not so great: one time it got in a cycle and wouldn't clear so I had to turn it off and leave for several hours

Turbo Tax The Only Way
on April 4, 2014

I have used Turbo Tax for many years now and it is so easy. One great feature is that after you use it in multiple years it keeps track of last years information and carries it forward. This is a great time saver since you don't need to re-enter information regarding yourself and names and addresses of schedules and deductions. This really is a time saver. The first few years I used the product I also had it done by a service and they were not able to find one additional dollar of deductions. I also have used the question and search feature for those times when I had very complicated things I needed to file. The answers that were found or available were very helpful also.
What's great about it: Step by step in all areas of your returns. Even checks with you about items that you are not eligable for just to make
What's not so great: I can't think of any

Required Minimum Distribution

I am over 70 1/2 and required to pay an RMD amount each year on my 401K balance which I am doing and entered this figure on my return. However, Turbo Tax also asked for the RMD amount paid on my monthly pension from Ford Motor which is incorrect - The bank issuing a monthly check and my financial advisor both said RMD is not applicable to pension payouts.
What's not so great: You asked for a RMD amount for my retirement pension
