An Excellent Way to File Taxes

My return was above average in complexity with multiple sales of mutual funds. All was handled very well. I keep a copy of TurboTax on my computer and create a new file and use it to estimate next years taxes. It works well.
What's great about it: Easy transfer of data from my mutual fund company.
What's not so great: I really don't have any.

Using the tax program was easy. The questions were understandable and examples helped. We have used TurboxTax for many years and have been very satisfied.

I've been using TurboTax for 7 years for my taxs and my working grandchildren, without an IRS challange on content. My 4 adult children now use Turbotax also. I have found it to be comprehensive and easy to use. Ease of use also comes with usage and knowing what souce and supporting documents you need to effectively use it. In addition, while the promts/ question answering featue of the software is effective, It helps to have a working knowledge of IRS rules and where to find them.

The forwarding of information from the prior year is so great. The Easy Guide makes sure you do not forget anything necessary for a return.
What's great about it: Easy to do
What's not so great: Boxes could be outlined with a darker line hard to see

Too much wasted time

I'm not sure, but it seemed like I spent a lot of time entereing information that wasn't needed.
In particular, with my daughter's return, why did it require me to enter all of her 1098-T information after I had indicated that she was being claimed as a dependent on my return and that, therefore, she wasn't elligible for any of the education deductions?

TurboTax 2014

TurboTax is a terrific product provided you are willing to put the required time and due diligence into it. Although TV commercials infer you can do your taxes from a tablet with little to no effort, my experience has been that US income taxes are truly complex and require significant investment of time, effort, and energy, regardless of the software you use. Personal responsibility assumed, I have found TurboTax Deluxe CD version to be consistently worth the investment of time and money. The ability to dig into the forms while moving through the interview has proven invaluable to my understanding of the relationship between my answers, the computations, and final results. The golden nugget of being able to create a pdf snapshot at any time provides the ability to move forward while looking backward and/or sideways, especially when dealing with multiple states.
What's great about it: Ease of use, thoroughness of interview, responsive customer service rep, accuracy of final results
What's not so great: failure to provide an update to fix certain software complaints that undermined confidence in the product
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
