I usually use Turbotax over all other competitors. Haven't found a comparable software. tried one year(2011), regretted it two years later, but had already returned using Turbotax in 2012. Plus I also get to save all my documents, have to pay on other softwares. I will keep coming back, as long as my income allows it. This is why I don't sign up for continuos membership, changing income.
What's great about it: Covers all basic tax situations
What's not so great: asks to sign up for extras, renew membership.

I had to file additional forms and after checking online for the answer, I was able to do all of the forms online and not have to mail things separately. This helped me to avoid a big hassle. Thank you!!
What's great about it: Found additional forms
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Continues to get worse

TurboTax does the complicated calculations and carry-forwards for depreciation. It handles AMT. It figures out how much of my medical expenses are deductible. It calculates my taxes including Schedule D. I hope it does it right, because I there's no way I can do it. Then it puts the numbers into the California forms. I should be happy.
Every year, the interview flow gets worse. It still doesn't import many things correctly from Quicken (I suppose the TurboTax people can blame the Quicken people, but they all work for Intuit, don't they?) The help system is usually no help at all.
Like most "modern" software, if it weren't for google to locate other people who have found a solution to a problem that occurs, the program would be unusable. (I don't have time to go to customer support for a dozen different issues.) The frequent patches needed and the form errors that can only be cleared by deleting forms and starting over all indicate a chaotic piece of software that does not inspire the confidence it should.
Next year, my tax situation will be simpler, and I will certainly take the time to consider alternatives.
What's great about it: Still does the major work of filling out the forms properly
What's not so great: Still doesn't integrate well with Quicken -- inexcusable

If I have to go back through the State review process and change anything, it seems like I have to re-answer every question again. Kind of an issue. Can't some of these items be saved?
What's great about it: very complete
What's not so great: State reviews
Pros: I bought or sold investments
