Great Overall

When you know a person cannot E-file MN state due to state estimated tax penalty, you shouldn't run them through the filing fee payment and then tell them they can't E-file. I had to call customer support and they reversed the charge.

I've been filing this way for years and it works for us - thanks so much for each year improving it and making it more efficient.
What's great about it: Like how it walks you through all the catagories - A-Z
What's not so great: None that I can think of

I had passive income listed on a 1099-misc in box 7. TurboTax wanted to treat it as self employment. Last year it asked some questions and determined that the income should be entered as sporadic investment income on line 21 of the 1040. This year I had to force it into line 21.
What's great about it: ease of use
What's not so great: handling of 1099-misc

Turbotax is essential tax tool

I've used TurboTax for over 15 years. It's complexity grows each year as does the complexity of the tax code. When I started using it, Turbo Tax was optional, something to do with my new computer. Now it is essential. I now import most of my taxable transactions direct from on-line accounts. It is fast, accurate and easy to do this. More difficult areas such as K1 Forms and the Foreign Tax Credit benefit from my year over year experience at fixing the problems and making the error messages go away.
Buy Turbo Tax. Learn to use it. Save preparation fees. Gain insight into the consequences of your financial decisions.
What's great about it: Comprehensive coverage of all the many forms I've needed
What's not so great: Complacent with fixing problems, e.g. Foreign Tax Credit Form 1116
Pros: I bought or sold investments
