State Tax E-File Charge

I still feel nervous and paranoid using TurboTax and doing my own taxes...but obviously I'm doing it anyway. Benefits definitely outweigh the cost. One other thing, though, is that I"m not thrilled about having to pay extra to e-file my state taxes. The copy I bought said state taxes were included--and they were--except for e-filing. That part annoys me a little.
What's great about it: TurboTax was relatively easy to understand
What's not so great: I'm still nervous

Too much printing

Except for the non-necessary printign and paper waste, Turbo Tax is the way to go.
It did incorrectly "guess" my county. But I saw it and corrected it manually.

What's great about it: Easy to do a hard job
What's not so great: Prints way too much fluff stuff that is totally not needed.

BACK TO TURBOTAX

Not a hit on TurboTax; however, I suggest that if you are preparing an 'itemized' form, use what you had prepared by a tax professional from the prior tax filing year for a "reference" point." In other words, let's say that you already filed taxes for last year #2012#; install TurboTax and 'try' to enter everything just as they walk you through it. When you are done, compare with what a tax professional prepared. You will be surprised! If you have errors, then it most likely is something you added/omitted that threw the numbers off. This is what happened to my wife and I. This way, you will understand what TurboTax is asking you. I have been using TurboTax for over ten years! So far, so good. My wife loves it too! Actually, I turned the 'reins' over to her after the second year of using TurboTax, and she insists on using it. Trust me, after the first few filings using TurboTax, you will understand A LOT about what the IRS is looking for, and how to avoid making blunders that could cost you!
What's great about it: I have all my tax information readily available whenever I need to review it
What's not so great: First timers will need help going through it. Only because, filing via long form is tedious.

Painless

Turbo tax once again performed well. Its so much easier when you've used Turbo tax in previous years. The comparisons between current year and previous year taxes make it almost impossible to forget claiming something you've claimed before. The only issue I have is with my 1099R for my Postal Service disability annuity pay. The taxable amount block 2a has "unknown" printed in it as it has in previous years. Turbo tax requires you to put an amount in the block. It would be nice for Turbo tax to except that entry and refer you to Pub 721 - tax Guide to U.S. Civil Service Retirement Benefits. Other than that, I say Great Job.
What's great about it: Easy to follow, good help screens and helpful reviews
What's not so great: Easy to get confused when e-filing federal and then trying to print State return.

Easy as Pie!!

This was very easy and simple to use. Filing should be this simple everytime! I have been using TurboTax for years and love the convenience of doing it myself with confidence that it is correct.
What's great about it: Simple Clear Instructions/Questions
What's not so great: Need to watch what you type, double check everything.

I've been using Turbo Tax for years. This year i could import all of the W-2s and it was very simple and convenient.
