Great Program

Have used TurboTax for almost as many years as it has existed. Thanks for a great program and it's improvements over the years.

Cheaper & easier than a tax person

For two years, I spent way-too-much on a tax person b/c I thought taxes were complicated. But I always spent a few hours checking his work afterward, so I figured I should try Turbo Tax since I was investing the time already. And, the price is right.
Using Turbo Tax was easy, not complicated. My favorite features are that it carries over information from the year prior (if you used Turbo Tax), and, it looks for cost savings (such as carrying over a loss, if a standard deduction is better, Quicken for donations, etc.). This software boosts my confidence. Filling out taxes is now bearable.

What's great about it: Carries over last year's numbers (cost savings);Ease to use; explains information with good example; the price is right.
What's not so great: None
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Simple and Easy

Overall, after having my documents in place, the whole process took less than8 hours. That's great. Standard process is easy to follow. Still some special cases where the explanation that could be improved for non-taxlawyer people.
What's great about it: All important information in one place
What's not so great: Some tax issues explained cumbersome and need guesswork

Need More Help

Clarification on types and kinds of stock options what and how handle taxes. Software led me to fill out forms and spend time on stuff that was not needed.
What's great about it: Self-guided and was able to get stuff from internet

Turbotax is the BOMB!

I love turbotax! They've come A LONG WAY over the past decade. Didn't seem to have any glitches at all. quickly walks you through the pertinent questions for your itemizing. Highly recommended.
What's great about it: quick, easy, very user friendly
What's not so great: a bit pricey, customer service could be a little more available

a little confusing using this version

The program this year left me feeling confused. When I reentered the program it ask me if I wanted to start where I left off. But it never did take me where I left off, but to the very beginning of filling out my taxes. Also when starting the program when it checked to see if there were new versions of the forms, more times than not the program would say an error had occurred in the update. When this happen I manually checked for updates. Some times there where updates and sometime there weren't. If there were, the updates always installed without errors. I felt concerned all through the process that the program wasn't working correctly. Sometimes after entering data nothing would change in the refund or owed window. During being guided through entries there where a lot (20) flags generated by the program saying something needed to be fixed. These flags where in areas I didn't fill out or need to fill out. I kept clicking fix and they finally disappeared without me changing anything. In e-file it required that I fill out the AGI for both me and my wife, and said there was an error until I typed in the AGI again. Why if filing a joint return do you need to fill in the AGI from last year's taxes twice?? Because of the above I have a less confidence in TurboTax than I have in the past and have some concern about how good the program is. After using TurboTax for many years and then trying other tax prep software, because of a cheaper price point, I will think twice about using TurboTax in the future because of this year's experience.
What's great about it: relatively fast to do taxes
What's not so great: when I returned to the program it wouldn't take me where I left off
