Can not itemize

overall very easy to use, answer simple questions and the numbers fall into the correct form. If I had not used Turbo Tax I would not have known about the energy credit I qualified for because I purchased new doors. Also the ease of e-filing was a great benefit. Direct deposit no worries.
What's great about it: ease answering simple questions
What's not so great: seperation of medical expenses

First timer
on April 2, 2014

Overall, I am very impressed... of course it took me 6 hours to file my taxes but I at least I can say that I filed my taxes on my own. I'm definitely planning on filing my taxes next year using turbo tax. Also maybe automatic updates, once the user is logged in might also help. Thanks!
What's great about it: As a first timer I didn't have any problems with the step by step filing system.
What's not so great: Some of the explanations were hard to understand because of its redundancy.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Got Us Through a Tricky Year
on April 2, 2014

We have used TT for many years and it continues to be the most reasonable and sane way to do our taxes. It takes you by the hand and gets you through to the end!
What's great about it: I really needed the online advice this year, so it was good to be able to pose my questions and get help.
What's not so great: Difficult understanding at first how the 1099R money was being reported.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Turbotax Review
on April 2, 2014

My daughter is disabled and lives off of Social security only. The program would not let her submit her taxes electronically. Program said the submittal was suspicious because she did not have any income, deductions, no refund and no tax due. Millions of people living only off of Social security have this situation. TurboTax needs to fix this problem.
What's great about it: Very thorough, complete and accuate. Hard not to miss anything.
What's not so great: Very slow even for easy tax submittals. Biased against poor people.

20 Years and Counting
on April 2, 2014

I have used Turbo Tax every year since 1995. In my opinion, it is the best thing going. I love the way it "remembers" information from year to year, saving countless hours of searching for old information from prior returns. My tax situation has changed from year to year, but I've prepared medium to moderately complex returns with relative ease - not to say I haven't had to do some research occasionally, but no one said the tax code was simple. I feel as confident as I can that I am maximizing my deductions, credits and tax savings. Thanks Turbo Tax for many years of "enjoyment."
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Complicated tax situation made easier
on April 2, 2014

I have used Turbo Tax off and on for 10 years. We have a very complicated tax situation with self-employment, family owned business income, adoption expenses, itemized deductions of medical expenses, etc, but Turbo Tax Deluxe always gets us through without much stress and without paying a tax preparer a huge amount.
What's great about it: step-by-step instructions, common help questions, covers all tax situations, info tranfers from previous year
What's not so great: had to know when to switch to forms from step-by-step to enter some info.

Generally satisfied

I started off by trying TT Online via my bank; however it didn't go well and editing items was kludgey. Fortunately, I was able to save/download the work there to my computer. I then purchased/downloaded TTDesktop, imported the saved file from TTOnline and was better able to address my issues.
Printing out estimated sheets was clear for my state taxes, but I somehow feel my fed estimate sheets were not created -- I need to go back and see if TT has those someplace or if they printed-out in my full-package once I finished.
What's great about it: saving TTOnline work to desktop TT was super-useful
What's not so great: Online version was flakey; prefer TTDesktop
