Tax Tubonated

Used Turbo Tax every year for many years and it has never let me down. When my personal taxes were so very complicated, this program walked me through the issues at hand. I do not have any accounting experience but this program makes me look like a CPA. My kids and in-laws rely on me to do their taxes every year. I may just have to admit my secret to how easy it all is with Turbo Tax and pass the torch on to my kids in the next couple of years.
Thanks Guys!!!!!!
What's great about it: Ease of use, quick changes, help with unclear items
What's not so great: I had to do all my family taxes....uuuuggggg! You made it easy.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

2013 Turbo Tax Delux

Good product, support is limited mostly to FAQ and forums, but it's pretty good.
What's great about it: As usual, the walkthrough "easy step" is flawless. Next best thing to a flat tax rate.
What's not so great: at the end I want to submit my state via snail mail - this does not get automated; you have to go back and do it .

Problems this year
on April 1, 2014

MS state is problematic. 1099 data and detail info not moved over to state. Had to input data without identification of fields. e.g., total income and state income. The 1099-B for individual stock sales was completely in the blind (form did not ID what stock sale and only asked for income not proceeds-basis-gain) . These entries were the 80-107 forms.
What's great about it: Federal is OK but tedious
What's not so great: MS state if verrrrry poor

Turbo tax makes filing taxes easy and ensures all aspects are reviewed. Reduces the possibility of overlooking situations that may reduce refund or increase taxes owed. I like the audit potential review at the end.
What's great about it: Very Easy to use and covers entire spectrum of situations
What's not so great: None

WOW! Never Again !!!

I used Turbo for 10 years. This is the last year. Completely unreliable for info needed. Not one question was ever answered. The taxes have been filed, but I will have a professional re-file next year. I have never had issue with filing taxes and have them in by 02/01 every year. I have never owed taxes. This year I owe a whopping amount and am retired. You say I need 1040 V, and then don't have it. Worst money I ever spent was buying Turbo this year!!! I would not give even one star, but you require it!
What's great about it: No pros to mention
What's not so great: This is the biggest mess I have ever seen. Unbelievably unprofessional. Not one question answered.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

TurboTax rocked

TurboTax has really taken the stress and anxiety away from doing my taxes. My wife and I would normally spend hours at our tax guy's office on our day off to get this daunting task done. Now, I do it in the comfort of my own home and at my own pace.
What's great about it: This software was made for dummies; i could do it.
What's not so great: None noted

Problems with updates

Second year using turbo tax. For the most part I think turbo tax has a great system that is easy to use. I love the summary screen which shows the progress on the return.
Problems. Last years return and this years return had problems with the updates of turbo tax. It prompts me that i need to download the updates. I download the updates and it tells me I am up to date. Then I proceed through the tax program and when my tax return is reviewed it tells me I need to update my turbo tax again. I did this 4 or 5 times when I finally gave up and send my taxes in without the up dates it was prompting me to use. Second issue. Once i chose i wanted to ammend my tax return I could not get rid of the option. I even followed a trouble shooting suggestion someone from turbo tax wrote. I went to federal income tax, went to other taxes, and chose NO for wanting to amend a return. Then when i reviewed my tax return, the system asked why I was amending my return.
What's great about it: easy to use. Great step by step approach, liked the summary after each section
What's not so great: Updates and amended tax return
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

Can't use same casino address, fed ID and state ID on all W2Gs You have to type the same information over and over. Donations have it. Why doesn't W2G forms. Going to look for a tax program that does it next year. Had to resubmit the tax returns twice last year because of incorrect Fed ID# on one W2G entry. Had to retype the same information for the same casino more then 20 times. Send an email if you fix this issue for 2014. Otherwise TurboTax seems fairly easy to use. Thanks Gary.
What's great about it: Relatively good layout
What's not so great: Have to reinput all W2G informetion over and over. See review
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
