Doing Taxes

Turbo Tax site for signing in was unstable - I was unable to recover my 2012 Tax Data or Transfer it as the computer I used for many years crashed in May of 2012 and I could not find my hard copy. Thanks to the IRS I was able to recover the file.
I had problems with the State of VA as it claimed I had filed an Amended return. The only way I corrected the problem was to completely delete the file and redo it.

What's great about it: Turbo Tax Software is straight forward

It worked

Due to a mistake on my part, my taxes for 2012 were not filed, so I had a heck of a time figuring out why I couldn't get PINs for the 2013 return. I was eventually able to figure out the problem by talking directly to the IRS. An agent from Intuit Turbo Tax was able to confirm that my 2012 taxes were not filed. In terms of providing the correct forms and accurate filing, I will continue with Intuit because it works well.
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions and covered all my bases.
What's not so great: Could have had better link to find an IRS person to talk to.

This is m18th or 19th yeasr using TurboTax and each year I find it easier and more robust.
What's great about it: Each year the dialogue and navigation gets better and better

Trying to print a copy of the return is extremely frustrating. When you click the "print" button a box comes up with 3 options -- save as pdf, review, or cancel. Going to "print center" brings up the same dialog box. I wasted a lot of time trying to print my return.
Also, I saved one form as a pdf and am not able to find where the software saved it. Also frustrating.
What's not so great: The software prompts you to print a copy of your return, but when you click "print" you can save or review not print

Easy Does It

I have used Turbo Tax for over a decade and have been very happy with the results. The only problem I have had is when my wife's artistic activities turned from a business to a hobby with some of her income still being reported on 1099 Misc. forms which would send me down the business income path. My work around was to not report the income as being associated with a 1099 Misc. but to report it on the 1040 Form Line 21 - Other Income (not for profit activity income).
What's great about it: Easy to follow instructions and very informative.
What's not so great: If you have hobby imcome and receive a 1099 Mics. form, you get sent down the business income path.

Tax prep can't get any easier! The walk through guide is an enormous help for first timers. The best investment for your time and money!

good experience very easy to file taxes with a security that it is done right. and I do not have to worry about the feds coming to the house to lock me up. I have a peace of mind that it is done right the 1st time.
