Thank you thousand$, Turbo Tax!

The once dreaded tax time is no longer an issue. I've been using TurboTax for at least 5 years, and have been relieved of hundreds of dollars of fees to a CPA or an EA (enrolled agent). The process is straightforward, and you are guided through each page or form thoroughly and completely. If you can read, this is the way to go. Do not be intimated by the "tax season" again. Get Turbo Tax!!
What's great about it: Very straightforward, easy-to-follow guide through headache of filing tax forms.
What's not so great: No complaints whatsoever!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Simplifies my busy life

I have been using TurboTax for many years. It is simple to use and I feel confident that my returns will be accurate. The hardest part is getting all my paper work together! As I have aged and my returns have gotten more complex, the Deluxe version has suited my needs!
What's great about it: automatic calculations
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

packaging confusing. similar layout and color scheme - wanted Fed and state, accidentally got only the Fed package. Had to pay dramatically more to add State after the fact.
What's great about it: quickly finished taxes, simple concise questions
What's not so great: several upsells repeated.

clumsy entry this year!
on March 29, 2014
Posted by: Serena70
Charitable deductions don't allow dollar amount entry after the charities name. Had to do it manually. Very difficult to navigate - goes back to the wrong pages. Not at all up to your usual standards, not nearly as user friendly as past versions. Makes you check for updates in the middle of your return instead of doing it before you start. Hope you can do better next year!
What's great about it: Quick
What's not so great: Missing entry areas

I use Ubuntu as my operating system of choice. I do have access to Windows, but would rather not use it. I will need to reevaluate my loyalty to TurboTax in the future.
What's great about it: works fine
What's not so great: would rather have Linux

I've used it for years

Cheaper than an acountant, and you have to gather your info either way. With TurboTax I can gather it in dribs and drabs. I also like that I can save it on my computer & it takes up no space.
What's great about it: I can stop & start; work at my own pace.
What's not so great: I wanted to copy & paste part of the step by step for a reminder to myself, but Turbo Tax won't let you do that.

Not as User friendly as last year
on March 29, 2014

An effective way to do taxes. Saves time making an appointment with a person. Easy to follow the flow of things. You can step back anytime.
It will import last years information somewhat. Somethings I had to manually type in. It is the same information from last year. It is a good double check I guess.
What's great about it: Walks you through like going to a person
What's not so great: Some things are confusing like HSA you contribute to before tax. Wording could be better

Guided input for 1099-misc did not provide space to enter or explain other income such as non-qualified pension income that should be posted on line 21 of federal return. This was only a problem this year and not in the past. Had to bypass question guide and enter the data directly on line 21.
What's great about it: strait forward to use
What's not so great: guided review for input of 1099-misc form did not provide sufficient opportunity to explain other income.
