More confusing this year

What can I say, I have been using Turbo Tax for the last 10 years or so. But for some reason this year was not as clear with instructions as I remember. Also I haven't been able to print my returns yet. Hopefully I'll be able to once I get thru this review process!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What's great about it: I was able to file both Fed and state
What's not so great: seemed to be a lot more confusing this year to use

Easy as ever!

Overall I highly recommend TutboTax. I have been using it since the mid 80's when the medium for the program was a 5.25" floppy! I always let the program walk me through each section. This way I catch any new things going on with my Fed and State returns. I only wish it would do my form 37 for my RITA taxes correctly. This is the second year in a row that it did not properly prepare the form and would not allow me to clear up the errors myself without continuing to call my attention to those errors. Someone needs to look into this. As with last year I went to the RITA site and had no problems entering the data to successfully complete my return.
What's great about it: Successfully walks you through Fed and State filing.
What's not so great: For the second year in a row it did not properly prepare my RITA tax form.

Easy

Easy to use, start and stop allows you to go find additional info that may get you more $ back with out increasing the fee. The program works like a tax advisor to suggest things that you may have left out. The comparison to last year is a big plus for me, it allows me to see if I may have missed something and also to see if I am better off this year versus others.
What's great about it: guided tour
What's not so great: none

Works well, and especially like the interview part. Started using Turbo Tax about 20 years ago as a means of being prepared to meet with my accountant. Used Turbo's great interview process to tell me what documents I needed to take so that I could avoid a second interview with the CPA. Switched to Turbo when I saw the bottom line between CPA and Turbo was less than a $.
A couple years later, I worked at the help desl for a company that produced tax software. No comparison, even though I could have filed with them as an employee, it was very difficult to use, and I was one of the people answering the "users" questions at the help desk.
Only issue with Turbo is that when you want to step back to redo something, you sometimes see a different form on the screen, but I can and have lived with that.
What's great about it: mostly easy to use
What's not so great: some issues when going back

Schedule D inputs need a better method
on March 29, 2014

I found the inputs on Schedule D to be both confusing and cumbersome. There has to be a better way to do this, similar to the input screens/forms from prior years. I understand about the Box A and Box B and the difference where basis is and is not reported, but with all those programmers, you need a way to simplify this process. I say this as a former tax practitioner who has prepared many tax returns in the past 30 years. As I said, I love the product overall, but the Schedule D inputs need a makeover.
Thanks for listening.
What's great about it: Love the program overall - makes filing taxes easy
What's not so great: Schedule D inputs need a better method
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments
