Quick and Painless

This went better than I expected. First I had to transfer my tax file from my old Windows XP laptop to my new Windows 8 laptop. I was expecting problems but it was easy. Then I just entered my personal info and data from my forms and now I'm done.
What's great about it: Easy entry no calculations
What's not so great: None I can think of

Updates, Updates, Updates!

After crawling through the process of doing my return (and those of my family), it would not file my returns until I did the updates - which I had done at the beginning! So, dutifully going back to make the updates prior to filing, I got the message that it was up-to-date. Back to the filing drop down and got the same message that it couldn't file until it was updated.
Being a slow learner, I finally figured out that if you 1) update at the beginning, 2) close down/out of the program, THEN you can go back in and 3) e-file your taxes.
My husband got so frustrated he finally gave up and mailed his in. I believe that Turbo Tax, which I've used since it first came out is a pretty good and thorough program but its the little things like this that make you shake your head.
Don't even get me started on how slow it runs on a MAC. . .
What's not so great: So many updates! And even if you update it before you file, it will not file because it wants you to do the updates.

I've used turbo tax for a decade now and i enjoy the ease of use of the program overall. It is a great program with everything I need to complete my taxes each year. I enjoy the step by step procedures moving through the income and deductible sections of the 1040. The overall cost of the program is reasonable, less than what it would be to have my taxes prepared by a so-called professional. i highly recommend turbo tax to everyone.
What's great about it: easy to navigate
What's not so great: had difficulty uploading prior year returns this year.

Good, but ...

Overall, I liked Turbo-tax. Two drawbacks: I wasn't able to change "Refund applied to Next Year's ES Tax". Once I clicked that option, I wasn't able to go back to change it. Also, I clicked "Amended Tax Return" by mistake, and I wasn't able to use e-file. I wasn't able to go back to change that it was not an amendment.
What's great about it: Easy to follow. Made filing less stressful.
What's not so great: I wasn't able to change "Refund allied to Next Year's ES Tax".

Easier Every Year

I have been using Turbo tax for many years now and this application just gets easier and easier to complete every year. Now that I am retired and have to start using my retirement investments Turbo Tax guides me through all the forms and questions, to insure that I have filed every source of income and also that I have taken every deduction that I qualify for. Some of this took a lot longer in years past but the updates to the application make if very easy this year.
What's great about it: More guidence and forms easier to understand and complete every year
What's not so great: Not much, attempt to sell added products or services once I have been advised it most likely will not be needed.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbotax/Mac is great but there's an e-file issue

I've been using Turbotax for PC and Mac for many years. Never had issues with the product or application. I switched to Mac in 2012 and had no problems. For 2013, the e-file would not work until I applied an update. However, the update would not apply although TTax reported that it had successfully installed. Rebooting the Mac after applying the update a third time did not allow e-file to work. Shut down and restarting the Mac did allow e-file to work. Painful at the end but still a great product.
What's great about it: fast tax prep and convenient filing
What's not so great: a bug prevents TTax Mac from applying an update and blocks e-filing until you restart the Mac
