Better than last year

Mostly smooth, although it continues to not force you to do the AMT, even though it is REQUIRED BY THE IRS. Unless you completely quit out of the application, it will continue to think there are updates forever. Seriously, it updated 5 times in one session (and wouldn't efile) before I quit the thing and re-ran. Now there were magically no updates.
What's great about it: mostly works
What's not so great: more obvious bugs they never seem to test for

2013 Fed & PA Income Tax Returns
on March 28, 2014

The system is basically user friendly especially for a non computer type like me.
The one frustration I experienced was with the State Taxes deduction on the Federal calculation. I down loaded the TurboTax disc on 3/28/14. When I got to the portion of Schedule "A: regarding State Tax option of Sales Tax vs. actual taxes paid, it stated, "Form not available will be available by 12/30/13".
This was confusing since it was already 3/28/14. I later found out after I had wasted time trying to get an answer on how to down load this updated form, that it was available ONLY after I finished completing all other information required.
I then could down load the missing form, but had to return to re-do the input to Schedule "A".
A quick solution would be to have the disc programmed to check for the LATEST version of forms etc. BEFORE anyone started to complete the forms.
Other than this item, the program was user friendly.
What's great about it: I liked the explanations of the questions about the area that was needed.
What's not so great: Did not enjoy waiting until the end of inputs to check to see if the forms I had were the latest.

its very unclear on the post 9/11 GI bill that has been passed to your child from military members. its very hard to understand the regulations on what you can claim.
What's great about it: smooth step by step process for most
What's not so great: does not have detailed info
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

A little worse every year

It may be the tax forms, but each year TurboTax seems to be a little more difficult to complete. I would hesitate to recommend it to a friend was had not yet used a software tax form, unless they were filling out a very basic form.
What's great about it: Basic information is easy to enter
What's not so great: When weird things happen it's frustrating

Bigger refund than expected
on March 28, 2014

I hate doing taxes, and get real cranky when I can't put it off any longer. For me, the hard part is getting the required data, badgering my kids for 1098-T, and organizing the papers in categories. Once I have done that, the data entry goes smoothly and only takes a few hours to complete.
I will get a much bigger refund than expected, so I'll adjust my withholding for next year accordingly.
The program worked as expected on my Mac, except for:
1. Had to do a workaround for the 1099-PATR my wife gets for patronage refunds from her buying club
2. Couldn't figure out how to enter the IP PIN that TurboTax recommended i use. The data entry field only accepts five digits, and the IP PIN is six.
What's great about it: data entry only took a few hours
What's not so great: couldn't use IP PIN
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I bought or sold investments

This year it was not as smooth as years before. Particularly in the stock & Bonds area (Sch. D?) But otherwise it was straight forward. Keep on improving.
What's great about it: The question method is the best way

Almost excellent!

TurboTax is the best of the lot among tax programs. My only objection this year is that it did not import names, SSNs, names of charities donated to, and other repetitive information from the previous year.
What's great about it: Well organized, thorough, directions usually clear
What's not so great: Did not import info from TurboTax 2012 this year. Every year before the current program imported repetitive informati

Fast, easy, efficient!
What's great about it: Filing Income Tax "For Dummies" (Turbo Tax) makes it so easy!
What's not so great: A bit pricey...
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
