I've used Turbo Tax for years. They make is so easy it gives me the confidence I need to do my own taxes. I especially like when I'm done I can print as many copies as I want on paper, but also having it to save in PDF files where I keep my other returns from previous years.
What's great about it: Very simple...just answering questions
What's not so great: none that i can think of
Pros: I moved

Housing Allowance
on March 28, 2014

As a reitred clergy, housing expenses can be deducted from my total pension, which comes in the form of housing allowance. That amount then becomes my taxable income for IRS purposes. Turbo Tax will not accept that taxable income, because it does not agree with my 1099-R. So I am now stuck without being able to E-file. I had no problem with this last year. I could enter my total 1099-R on line 16a, and then subract housing expenses, with the difference being entered on line 16b. Why can't I do that this year?
What's not so great: I cannot deduct my housing allowance from my pension.

Good but...

I've used TurboTax for years and found it fast and convenient. However, the boxes generated by TurboTax don't match the boxes on my 1099-Rs. Furthermore the "error check" required an entry for a box that is not on either of my 1099-Rs and there was no way to ascertain what that box was supposed to represent - there was no written description, e.g. local tax withheld, local or state distribution, etc.
I'll continue to use TurboTax, but it would sure be nice if once you said you were retired, it generated queries that matched a 1099-R.
What's great about it: TurboTax eliminates math errors
What's not so great: The boxes on my 1099-R don't match TurboTax

Easy to go through and fill in blanks/answer questoins. Made an error in misc income and could not take it back. Forced to fill in something in order for program to accept it and move forward
What's great about it: Easy to follow as long as everything is standard
What's not so great: Did not handle exceptions well. many mistakes were unforgiving
Pros: I moved
