I have filed my taxes with turbo tax for over 5 years now. Its the easiest way to go. No more worrying if I have all the papers I need while heading to a tax consultant!
What's great about it: The easiest way to file taxes

I have used this product for years, I do not foresee using it in the future.
What's not so great: does not show where an error is specifically, you are left to try to figure it out. E-filing was a nightmare.

Adding sort or insert features to lists
on March 27, 2014
Posted by: pvGeezer
For years now I have wished to have the ability to insert a new investment/fund in my list of taxable accounts in schedules B and D and as a plus, the ability to sort the items in the list at least alphabetically and preferably also by owner. I would also like to have this capability in my list of charities. My wife and I EACH have about 30 charities we support and when I first entered the list years ago, I entered mine first alphabetically and then my wife's alphabetically. Over the years we have dropped some and added others and now we have a list of mine and then hers from the original set which are still in sort order followed by a hodge podge of new charities that are unsorted due to being added at later times. Same is the case with our changing investments: an initially sorted set of mine and then hers followed by an unsorted collection of new funds. Having been a former programmer, I know that adding this feature is not hard.
I also suggest that you review your charges for state programs and for filing state returns. Those costs are the biggest reason for rating my likelihood of recommending TurboTax to others.
What's great about it: Top rated tax program
What's not so great: Needs convenience user features and cost
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Just wanted to mention that I got a little confused when you started asking about tuition payments for deductions. Try to make it clear that these only apply to college tuition and not private school tuition prior to college. Maybe I missed a detail about that, but I felt overall that this section wasn't clear about the fact that it only applies to college tuition.

I have been using TurboTax for more than 20 years. It has exhibited continuing improvement. Could still be more user-friendly in entering K-1 data and explaining the forms that receive data from the K-1
What's great about it: Free, prompt telephone Help is a big plus.
What's not so great: Charitable contributions by Parnterships were not picked up until the Step by Step review.

Painless
on March 27, 2014

I've been using TurboTax for a number of years and each year it seems the software is better than last year in terms of easing your way through the various topics. This year was no exception. At the end of the line when you have to either pay or arrange a refund, it's again painless. Love this product and will continue to use this for years to come. It saves me hundreds of dollars by not going to a tax preparation office.
What's great about it: Every possible topic was covered
What's not so great: Loved it allI

some kind of glitch

I receive a 1099- misc for health care premium paid by previous employer as part of retirement package. Turbo insisted on listing this as income from a business I operated. - NOT SO! - I eventually corrected this by manually entering it on line 21 of the 1040 form where it belongs. Don't know why Turbo insisted on this mistaken assumption, but it should be fixed.
What's great about it: assured return correct
What's not so great: preferred 2012 program

Form E, Where You Be?
on March 27, 2014

My rub is that I held to Q form LLCs in my IRA which produced a $15 credit. But when I tried to file electronically, Turbotax told me I needed to complete a Form E to accompany these Q filings. Only problem was that to GET Form E, I needed to pay additional money to Quicken to get the more detailed program that contains Form C. I thought about this overnight and decided I would just delete the three Q filings. These did not change my Federal return at all and my VA return by $2.00. I went back into the out-of-state taxes paid section and added the equivalent extra purchases to make up for the missing $2. So, the Fed's get their due, and so does the Commonwealth. Seriously, Turbotax. For $2 in taxed due, I am am going to shell out $20 plus more dollars to solve this problem preventing me from e-filing?
What's great about it: Logical, progressive way to work through the annual tax sweepstakes.
What's not so great: Corrections don't always register immediately, requiring multiple entires sometimes
Pros: I bought or sold investments
