Gets better each year
on March 27, 2014

TurboTax continues to improve and I have been using it for many years. The import features, including previous year's data, financial institution info. and charitable contributions from ItsDeductible are great time savers. The interview process continues to be very helpful.
I would like to see 2 improvements. 1). When the system lists charitable contributions from the previous year, it would be very helpful to arrange them in alphabetical order; that's the way I keep them on an Excel spreadsheet. It would also be a time-saver to return to the position on the list where you last made an entry; the system takes you back to the top of the page when you are done with a contribution. 2). The system forces you to print Estimated Tax Vouchers for the next tax year and I find this annoying. I believe that I know more about my income for the coming year than the system does. Additionally, I believe that many people are using on-line methods to file Estimated Tax payments (EFTPS for Federal, state DOR for state).
What's great about it: Import features
What's not so great: Mandatory Estimated Tax Vouchers

Excellent Tool
on March 27, 2014
Posted by: 99oldgrtone99
Overall a high quality software tool. Only complaint I have is with entering and computing foreign tax. But I guess not many folks have this problem.
Would have given 5 stars, if not for the foreign tax frustration.
What's great about it: Easy to use, quick to enter and see where you stand on your taxes
What's not so great: A little lax on guiding you through foreign tax computations
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

FSA and Dependent Care Credit Confusion
on March 27, 2014
Posted by: maxV0
The program needs to explain a little more about the difference between a Dependent Care Credit and the benefit of the Flexible Spending Accounts. I kept feeling that TurboTax was assuming that the $5000 in box 10 of my W-2 was a benefit provided by my employer, when in actuality it was income that was set aside to be untaxed. I am still not sure it calculated correctly.
What's great about it: familiar program
What's not so great: confusing terms
Pros: I moved

Major Bug in the 2013 Deluxe version
on March 27, 2014
Posted by: shaggybone
I have been using Turbo Tax for the last 4 years and until this year have always been very satisfied with the product. There appears to be a bug in the 1099-Misc section in which the program is not allowing the employer tax EIN number to be accepted. It keeps saying there is an incorrect format. Reading the help boards I see many people have complained about this. The bug meant I was unable to use the free e-file option (since the program would not allow me to continue) and had to mail the return in instead. I was not a happy camper. Would have rated product 5 stars if not for the bug. Here's hoping this gets corrected for 2014.
What's great about it: Easy to use, very comprehensive, good help screens.
What's not so great: 2013 version contains a bug which prevents use of free e-file option..

Room for improvement
on March 27, 2014

The instructions for filling in info from PTP K-1s are inadequate. For some reason your program opened amended returns for both federal and state when I hadn't filed. I eventually figured out how to "remove" the 1040X and solved that list of error messages but I could not "remove" the MA CA-6 form no matter how many times I pushed the "remove" button.
What's great about it: Covers almost everything
What's not so great: Inadequate for PTP k-1s. Involuntarily opened amended returns for both Federal and State

Used saved time for family fun!

I file for myself and my 4 college age children. It makes filing such a breeze. We give ourselves extra hours for enjoying life by using Turbo Tax. Just to let you in on a secret, I have been using Turbo Tax every year since 2011 (I filed "manually" in 2010 and it took me f o r e v e r).
As an opportunity for improvement to save even more time...It would be beneficial to be able to see go to a sort of "check list" that offered the opportunity to go directly back to a question that you need to correct instead of going through an entire section again.
What's great about it: Can file multiple returns - remembers previous year data
What's not so great: don't have any
