My Dad's Refund
on March 26, 2014

I do my father's taxes. He is a retired fire fighter. When approaching line 16 on form 1040, the interview questions are very unclear. He is allowed a $3000.00 tax credit for being a Public Service Officer. It's difficult to see if he is getting the credit or not. Long story short, I've missed the credit the past four years. This year I finally figured out how to find it. Why is this part of the interview so difficult?
What's great about it: Just about everything
What's not so great: PSO - line 16

My Account had a stroke and abruptly retired. I flounder around with my taxes for 2 years, until I purchased Turbo Tax. That was 5 years ago. The first year I was concerned where all the information was being placed on the Forms. I learned to trust Turbo Tax. I am convinced that Turbo Tax will know more about the tax code than I or my previous account will ever know.
What's great about it: Just Answer Questions, E-Filing
What's not so great: None

Not that hot for Portland, OR residents
on March 26, 2014
Posted by: ORTaxPay
Overall its okay, but TurboTax struggles with the new Portland Art's Tax and Oregon Cultural Trust donations.
The Art's tax should be automatic as everybody in the city of Portland should be paying it.
The Oregon Cultural Trust contribution should be more automated. It took an hour to figure out how to add the OCT donation back in to the Oregon return.
What's great about it: Easy Entry
What's not so great: Can't cope with Portland's Bizarre Taxes

Walk Right Thru It
on March 26, 2014

Easy to enter all data and every category is explored. I just entered the same information that I formerly would take to CPA and saved the extra money they would charge. TurboTax also prompted me to remember things I would probably have forgotten to claim. Excluding the year my husband passed away I have used this for past several years and been very satisfied,
What's great about it: Easy to follow step by step guide
What's not so great: Hard to get answers to specific questions when a problem is encountered.

Turbo Tax 2013
on March 26, 2014

Good program, I have used Turbo Tax since 2010, and it seems to improve a little each year. Everything is well explained. Most everything is concise and to the point, but you still have the option of having more information available if you do not understand a particular section or individual item. Intuit could probably help the government straighten out and simplify the tax code!
What's great about it: fast, easy and to the point
What's not so great: none

Inadequate MD military retirement income
on March 27, 2014
Posted by: snotiger37
Maryland's Instruction 13 for subtractions from income specifically states "Enter your net taxable pension and retirement annuity included in your federal adjusted gross income. Do not include any amount subtracted for military retirement income. See code letter u in Instruction 13."
Since your program does not allow me to properly enter my military retirement income subtraction I have to question the line 10 pension exclusion and do my Maryland return manually. I am not able to file electronically. Now I need to contact MD officials to insure I can file an accurate state return.
What's great about it: Printout of worksheets
What's not so great: Inability to enter military retirement subtraction
