Great Time-saver

Turbo-Tax offered the option to import financial data from a well-known company, taking the guess work out of the Capital Gains Worksheet. Automatic calculations simplify the entire tax preparation process from start to finish, and it was quicker than taking forms to a local preparer.
What's great about it: Quick & Easy
What's not so great: Fee to file State refund for a simple return when a 1040 long-form is mandatory

Turbo tax frustrations

overall a good product but this year's return had problems. First, the IRA rollover amount did not appear on lines 15a and b as instructed in the IRS publication 590 but as part of pensions on 16a and b; which I guess works but does not comport with instructions. Then with e-file. First, the program told me to upload any updates; which I did but it still did not complete the validation process. after another update several days later, it made it through the validation stage but locked up during transmission stage. Several tries later it said I had successfully filed. We'll see???
What's great about it: loaded information from previous year, easy data entry because of familiarity
What's not so great: had problems with e-file on several occasions

Everyone Should use it

Speaking as a classic procrastinator, Turbotax helps me simply to get it done with no fears of making mathematical errors.
What's great about it: Loads and compares filing from previous year.
What's not so great: Charge for multiple states

I did not try it this year, but has been an ongoing issue for me for years. Every third year my daughter could be claimed by her Dad. If I did an import of prior year taxes, it would bring in the prior year dependent and filing status info at which time I previously could not alter it, even at the form level. Allow customized imports. Also, this year, I put too long of a name in one of the Dividend company spots. State said it was too long and it would NOT let me change it. So, I deleted the state form and then it would not let me add it back in. Had to start completely over. Form corrections are bad
What's great about it: Seems to ask the correct questions
What's not so great: form corrections, retention of some data if you go back through

Excellent. I've used Turbo Tax for several years now and have never had any problems or issues.
What's great about it: fast, convenient, thorough

Taxed by Doing My Taxes

Have used Turbo Tax for a number of years now. Always does the job. This year though, I had worked through most of may taxes and then got a message some forms were not available yet. I thought that was odd since we were well into the tax year. I had to initiate the updates from the menu (this is usually done when starting up the software each time). Once the updates were done, all was well.
What's great about it: Turbo Tax walks you thought it. Love the transfer of info from last year.
What's not so great: Required updates were initiated when first starting
