Another happy year of TurboTax

I started using TurboTax several years ago. I was sold with their product the first try - they found a tax credit that I knew nothing about. I received several hundreds more in my return than if I'd done it by hand.
And it was so easy. I'd always done it myself and it would take days and lots of calculations and re-calculations. I also read as many of the IRS's publications as I could find, which were not always clear and often seemed to contradict each other.
TurboTax has gotten easier to use each year - and I thought they were easy the first time! It grabs the data from the previous year. The prompts are easy to follow. The descriptions are clear and t there are good examples. (I often understand better with examples than with descriptions.)
My one annoyance this year was with updates. I use a non-admin account on my computer, and when the program wants to update, it does not give the option to give the admin password. I tried giving my non-admin account all permissions on the program, but that didn't work. So I had to close the program, log out, log in as an admin, and do the update. Even so, it said I still had to update when logged back into my non-admin account and opened up TurboTax. Yet when I'd log out and log in as admin, it would say no updates needed. I went back and forth a few times before it finally worked. Also, it would not update everything at once, so when I started the state tax form, I had to do it again. But this complaint is specific to the setup on my computer. I hope they fix that for next year.
Even with that annoyance, I think TurboTax is wonderful and am so thankful for the program!
What's great about it: TurboTax just keeps getting better. Super easy to use. No calculations required.
What's not so great: Wish a free file-online for a state is included. Update problem for my specific computer.

Maybe it's because, I'm currently retired and don't have the documentations of investments, interest, and dividends that I had 4 or 5 years ago, but TurboTax held my hand and was easy and superb. Thanks

Decent, but still needs work

There is no prompt about nominating a personal representative to talk about this tax return. The information is on the 1040 form, but the "yes" box has to be checked manually, in "Forms".
There is no way to cut/paste numbers from the calculator into supporting data forms. And there is no way to work on the calculator separately from the main software - one is either in the main software or in the calculator. No multitasking allowed.
I am stuck using this software because all my records are in its format. I suspect it is typical of the whole genre. Oh for the days when it was possible to fill out these forms by hand, with a simple calculator. The need for this sort of software is a sign of a major fault in the workings of our governments.
What's great about it: gets the job done
What's not so great: nags about stuff, and pathways are often not clear
