Glitch in program
on March 21, 2014
Posted by: Geekus
After saving my work while I was preparing my return, and closing the program, it would not return to where I left off when I launched it the next time. Very frustrating.
What's great about it: Very easy to use
What's not so great: Did not return to where I left off.

We have used Turbo Tax for the past 5 years with great success. As our family situations change, you always make it easy to understand. Turbo Tax is a winner in my book!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Great Program

Have used Turbo Tax for 8 years now and think it's the greatest. Used to use an accountant and paid him hundreds a year. We always owed money but since using Turbo Tax even though we still owe, I felt since I did it myself and reviewed everything over and over with Turbo Tax's guidance I trusted that it was correct. Now that we're retired, got money back for the first time in 20 years. Will continue using it.
What's great about it: Easy to use even for a neophyte
What's not so great: Can't think of any

2013 TT experience
on March 21, 2014

This year was more difficult than in the past due to all the extra entries for foreign bank accounts and Financial Assets. During the form 1099 section for pension income the step by step did not ask me to prepare a substitute form for my UK pension. It led me straight to the 1099 form for my UK pension as if I had an actual 1099 form. I had to delete the UK entry and add a substitute form with that name. I note that this year the correct allocation of pension funds between the Canadian, UK and USA appears on the summary. Last year it was wrong on the summary but OK on the form. Since I have income from the UK, Canada and the USA with accounts and assets in all three countries I would never have been able to do the return without TT.
What's great about it: Handles foreign income and tax credit almost painlessly.
What's not so great: I had to correct 3 errors concerning missing statements for form 1116. The step by step process did not ask for these.

There should be a way to merge all DATA input from 2 single (for state filing) into 1 married for federal filing. without having to reenter all information.
What's great about it: None
What's not so great: Not available
