I have been using Turbo Tax for a long time. I can't understand why anyone would go to a professional tax preparer unless they have a very complicated return.

We've used Turbo Tax for years; would never go back to manually filling out tax returns! I love the "Step-by-step"; my husband prefers the "Forms" approach. You have a wonderful product which alleviates the stress of giving money to the government.
What's great about it: Gets better every year. Makes an unpleasant task easier.
What's not so great: Why is missing info left 'til right before the e-file completes?

Doing the taxes by hand would be impossible. Turbo Tax saves the cost and complexity of having an accountant do them for us.
What's great about it: investment downloading, all math computations, not having to find all of the extra forms.
What's not so great: some of the data entry is more complicated that it has to be.

Great Product

I've been using Turbo Tax since 1987 and have seen the evolution into a continually better product. It is profoundly easy to use and allows you to progress at your own skill level via "step-by-step" or "choose your own" topics. The only difficulty at all is with the search engine contained on it, as it doesn't always pick up the terms. For example, I was trying to download more financial documents after I had initially done so, and the step-by-step then skips this, so when I looked it up in the search it contained no such terms. Ultimately I found the solution until the "File" and "Import" tabs. However, I didn't use the online help, which probably would have sped the process. All in all a great tool and generally as user friendly and easy as it could be.
What's great about it: Ease of use
What's not so great: Difficulty in finding some items via "search"

Really good and some bad

In 2008 I took the first time homebuyer credit and the program attached the 5405 form in the return. In 2009 and subsequent years, it failed to pick up required payback from the 2008 file. I never caught it, and IRS didn't until 2012. What a mess!
What's great about it: Generally straight forward and clear
What's not so great: really fouled up on the 5405 form

Over Priced

Over priced when renewed automatically through Intuit/Turbo Tax. Many financial institutions, brokerage houses, etc. offer your product for less. As a long time user, who has always renewed automatically, I am disappointed. Renewing automatically should truly get me the best price, but it doesn't. I don't want all the "extra" free items included in your offer to renew.
What's not so great: Over Priced
