2013 Tax Review

Loved all portions of Turbo Tax except the deductions for energy credits like solar power. This section needs to be clarified for future use. For instance, Turbo Tax says solar tubes are not deductible but when I Google it the answer was that solar tubes are deductible. Portion on solar panels is not very clear either.
What's great about it: All instructions seemed straight forward, Liked itemization for charitable deductions
What's not so great: Section on deductions for solar were not really clear.

Taxes made easy

Turbo tax makes filing taxes easy and less painful. Starting with bringing forward last years information. Each section gives you detailed explanations of the items you are claiming. Not that Im looking forward to doing this every year, but Turbo tax sure makes it less painful

easy peasy lemon squeezy

Turbo Tax was my Sherpa through the mountain of files and forms the IRS presents to everyone. With it I was able to scramble and scale the precipices that are taxes without falling off the cliff to certain doom. My reward for the adventure was a nice view of a generous refund.
What's great about it: nice guide through all the hoppla the IRS gives you
What's not so great: lack of transparency in the process

First time in 30 yrs I did my own tax return and first time on a computer.
I had 1099s and no W2s. Did not know where to start. Put stuff in wrong holes at first.
Got past all that. Then PC could not contact server for updates or state forms.
I use Foxfire browser and TurboTax works with Internet Explorer. Lost a lot of hours beating on my PC. Need to clear this up, way up front. Once I fixed IE, everything went smooth.

Simple to use

I worked for a tax accountant for many years. Now that I am doing my own returns I needed something easy and accurate. Found it with Turbo Tax. Just have to recheck your information as it is easy to miss something (but most of the time you will be asked to verify what you have input).
What's great about it: uncomplicated approach
What's not so great: must carefully read everything

Arkansas Pension Deduction Problem

Turbo Tax is a wonderful tax preparation software package but it has never handled my Arkansas allowed income exemption correctly during the regular questioning framework. I am required to override the income box and make the manual adjustment which results in my inability to file electronically.
What's not so great: The program does not handle the Arkansas allowed exemption from pensions correctly, in my case.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

EASY STREET

I Have so many charity contributions that if I wasn't getting it all back I would put in more.
What's great about it: ease of navigation back and forward
What's not so great: all the addresses i must put in for contributions
