I've used Turbo tax for 13 years and it has saved me money every year including this year by reducing what I had to pay by almost $500

MADE INCOME TAX FILING EASIER

I rely on Turbo Tax to do all of the figuring for me and to KNOW the forms/rules/etc. for filing. It's easy to walk through income, deductions etc. but would be nicer if it didn't continue to take you back through prior pages so many times. Once a kind of deduction is completed, go to the next one without going back to the beginning of deduction 1.
What's great about it: ALL OF THE FIGURING IS DONE BY TURBO TAX
What's not so great: TAKES YOU BACK OVER PREVIOUS PAGES TOO MANY TIMES
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Why not use TurboTax?

TurboTax software is the best tax preparation I have ever used. The unique interview style questions on the screen result in a completely accurate personalized return. You never have to worry that you are forgetting anything that you should be claiming. You don't waste any time reading documentation that doesn't apply to your situation.
Most importantly, you are not overpaying for some local tax preparation "expert" who you don't know, and probably will never see again in your life.
Save your money! Why not use TurboTax instead! I did!

The good, the bad and the ugly

I have used TurboTax (from a CD) for many years, but I continue to find issues with some of the basics. I save my 2013 TurboTax file on a USB drive which I remove from my computer for additional security when not doing taxes.
When I did the print preview of my 2013 taxes, TurboTax put the temporary PDF file into My Documents on my C drive, not onto the USB Drive folder with the TurboTax data file. After reviewing the file, I closed it and TurboTax erased it. However, erased is not gone, just hidden. If someone hacked my computer, they could potentially access the PDF copy until it has been over written.
Also, I was unable to encrypt the PDF of my taxes I saved on my USB, so this potential additional security is unavailable.
What's great about it: The Step by Step worked great
What's not so great: There are issues with how TurboTax generates and saves files
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Turbo Tax Is The Way To Go

For the 5th year in a row, we've used TurboTax and are pleased with the ease of filing taxes. The entire process is logically laid out and easy to follow. There is room for improvement but only for convenience sake. Our software warned that IRS hadn't yet completed certain forms we needed, saying the forms were expected by December 31, 2013 but we were filing in March, 2014. Updating the software was required to get the form. Seems it would be easy enough to begin the entire session with a check for updates rather than waiting until the return is well under way to discover that an update needed to be done. All in all, however, it fits like a glove and is a real stress buster and a time saver to boot. We love it.
What's great about it: Well thought out, understandable, fast
What's not so great: Some small things could be further automated

I HAVE TOLD AT LEAST FIFTY PEOPLE HOW GREAT THIS SYSTEM IS. ONLY ABOUT TEN HAVE LISTEN AND HAVE AT LEAST THE SAME ATTIUDE ABOUT TURBO TAX AS I DO. IF YOU CAN READ YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO YOUR OWN TAXES. ALL ANYONE WOULD NEED IS THE SAME INFO THAT YOU TAKE TO YOUR PRESENT TAX "SPECIALIST". ALSO IT WILL COST ABOUT WHAT YOU NOW PAY YOUR SPECIALIST.
What's great about it: EVERYTHING TRANSFERD FROM LAST YEAR
What's not so great: NONE

So Easy and Fast!
