I found that a going back and performing a detailed review of my state return was iffy compared to self-guided tour offered for the federal return. How come? Like to be able to wizard or self-guided tour through the various steps of my state return just like the Federal. I eventually got to go back and review my state return, but it wasn't as easy as the Federal to do so.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

A Great Program, but not beyond criticism

As an ordinary tax ignoramus, I have had a fairly easy time working my way through Turbotax and for a number of years now have had good results. I have made one suggestion for an improvement which they haven't listened to. And This year the electronic filing for my Federal return didn't work, and they couldn't fix that, and it was no fun. But in the end they gave good instructions for filing by mail.
When you consider the irrational complexity of our tax system, and especially if you think that most of us are paying more than our share while certain millionaires and especiallly billionaires are probably not paying their fair share, we can be grateful that the Turbotax people figured out a system for letting us comply with the law--even if we don't like it.
What's great about it: Oriented to the ordinary tax-ignoramus
What's not so great: Deals with all details of our crazy tax system

I continue to use TurboTax because its quick and very comprehensive. I have learned a great deal about my whole tax situation and it helps me plan for the next year and the future.
What's great about it: All the information, forms. etc. that you need are available.
What's not so great: It will take you some time to work your way through everything.

TurboTax 2013 Review

Every year I benefit from having TurboTax copy the previous year's information to help jump start the process. That is a big help.
What's great about it: Easy and straightforward to use.
What's not so great: A couple of areas that were vague.

Did it Perfect

This is now about a decade that I have been using this product and it gets better every year. My taxes have recently become more complicated after purchasing a home as well as other items and Turbo Tax does an incredibly great job at breaking everything down into detail
What's great about it: Find Answers, Clear cut
What's not so great: None

Great software product!

I have been using TT for years and it just makes filing taxes so easy. Our tax situation does not change too much from year to year and TT handles all my concerns smoothly. We both have retired during these last couple of years and handling the new pension forms and distributions was a breeze with TT. This year we had an energy tax credit situation and through the Help site TT guided me though this new event for 2013. TT is just worth every penny for the ease and peace of mind. I start our taxes in January before we leave for 6-7 weeks for a winter getaway and upon return in March I continue entering data and tweaking the return. It's just so easy to work with this software. I can return to specific parts of the return very easily and enter any new data which arrived while we were away from home.
What's great about it: Input from previous years
What's not so great: Nothing major

Mixed Performance this year

TurboTax 13 was pretty much the usual polished product however I can't give it 5 stars due to problems with the handling of municipal bond interest and filing. TurboTax no longer asked if any of the muni bond interest was also state deductible. It simply loaded it all into my Missouri State form as a taxable "addition". This required me to take an "other subtraction" and try to explain what it was in about 30 characters. I don't know if MO will accept this. The filing error was a refusal to complete the filing saying of my Federal return saying that an "update" was required. However when I re-launced TurboTax it said there were no updates available. When I tried to file again on the following day there were still no updates, but the program did file.
What's great about it: Basic process is usual great job
What's not so great: Poor handling of tax exempt interest dividends (muni bonds)
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)
