Overall, you're program is decent. Not sure if I will use it again.
What's great about it: lots of topics, step by step
What's not so great: confusing, couldn't print out copies to be mailed, no piece of mind.

IRA & PENSION
on March 17, 2014
Posted by: SUZIEQ904
In final printout Turbo Tax lumps my IRA RMD and my PENSION together on line 16b, instead or separating
IRA in 15a & 15b and pension on lines 16a & 16b.
The total on 16b is correct as far taxable vs. net amount.
What's great about it: Total is correct
What's not so great: does not seperate IRA & PENSION in final printout.

I really liked using TurboTax last year so I used it again this year. I'm surprised that there were more technical issues this time around though:
- When I tried to do "Visit All" it would only take me to the first section without advancing to the next (hence requiring me to manually go through them step by step).
- Some sections that I found out to not be relevant to me were difficult to backtrack to the original menu.
- transmission of my e-file couldn't go through, even after I had checked for updates; had to restart the program and go through the steps again leading up to transmission (info was already saved, fortunately)
A couple other things:
- I wasn't too clear if "Start" meant that I had to go through all the sections or if they would be auto-filled with $0's if I skipped them (vs. risking getting to the end and finding out that I had major gaps).
- Some things could've used a bit more explanation (e.g., traditional vs. roth IRAs - I have a rollover IRA and the Learn More window seemed to suggest that rollovers were a roth IRA, but I had to research online to confirm that it was traditional IRA).
Overall though, I got my taxes filed. I still like TurboTax, but I'm a bit disappointed with my experience this year vs. last year.
What's great about it: "Learn More" links, pre-filled info carried over from previous year's return
What's not so great: technical glitches

Minor Problem, I guess
on March 17, 2014
Posted by: DustyKat
When you start, Turbo Tax asks for the address from the W-2. But, on the forms it prints to be sent to your Federal, State, and Local Tax Dept., it lists the W-2 address as the same address as your place of employment.
Problem is, sometimes these are two different places. Shouldn't Turbo Tax ask if the W-2 address is the actual place of employment, rather than assume that it is?
What's great about it: Easy to use.
What's not so great: W-2 address not the same as Working Address

ALMOST EASY

I always use your product - my late husband started the process many years ago - I continue since his death since it is easy to do for the most part.
For property sale the directions could be clearer - confusing over what to use for cost of home, for example.
Where and how to ask for help could be clearer.
What's great about it: Easy direction
What's not so great: Some items difficult to understand
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion), I moved

Its a good product overall but i didn't like the fact that i paid for the product at the time of purchase and when I wanted to file my State i was getting charged again! So at the end I spent the same as when i take them to a tax service.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Great for Federal, Quirks in State
on March 17, 2014

I have been using TurboTax for 11 years to file my taxes. This year, it automatically selected "Debit Card" for my refund option (Virginia). It never gives you the option within the software to select that you want it another way. I made the assumption that it would just transfer over from my federal preferences, BUT IT DOES NOT. TERRIBLE DESIGN!!!! Now my refund is delayed because I didn't catch it before filing. Federal is easy to e-file.
What's great about it: walks you through, federal can e-file up to 5 returns for free
What's not so great: State costs to e-file, direct deposit doesn't automatically flow into state
Pros: I moved
