HSA Distributions in Medical Expense Worksheet
on March 16, 2014
Posted by: EdHo1
Part of my 2013 HSA distribution was for 2012 medical expenses. On the Medical Expense Worksheet Turbo Tax subtracts the entire 2013 HSA distribution. Turbo Tax should handle this by asking if any portion of the current year HSA distribution relates to prior year expenses in its Step-by-Step HSA process. It could then exclude the prior year amount from the HSA distribution subtraction in the Medical Expense Worksheet. Overriding the worksheet or creating a fake miscellaneous expense to accommodate this isn't the correct solution.
What's not so great: Doesn't account for HSA Distributions to include prior year expenses

I still have a hard time understanding what is being asked for in the RITA section.
What's great about it: seems to cover all of what I needed
What's not so great: RITA - still confusing

getting it all!

I've used turbo tax for several years and greatly appreciate how easy TurboTax has made its use, given the complexity of tax laws. I particularly appreciate the cost of using TurboTax in comparison to the high costs of having a CPA do year-end taxes for me (approximately ten times as much!). The easy-to-follow breakdown format used by TurboTax to determine the cost of items contributed to nonprofit organizations was also a big plus. Due to minor problems on my part, two of my e-file submissions were rejected. Happily TurboTax immediately provided an explanation of the problem, as well as a resolution, and the forms were resubmitted successfully. I think it's easy to appreciate why I plan to continue using TurboTax for years to come.
What's great about it: easy-to-follow step by step instructions
What's not so great: "before/after taxes" health care premiums dedcutability rules confusing

Overall a very good product, but the additional state returns are expensive as well as the E-file to the states.

What's not so great: Additional state return is expensive as well as Efile to states.

took only 3 hours from start to finish and filing. very easy to understand and to do; the downloading of info from brokerage accounts was awesome and a relief.
What's great about it: much easier than I thought to use
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Twenty Years of TurboTax!
on March 16, 2014

Next tax season will be by Twentieth Year with TurboTax! Yep, that's right - we met back in 1995. It's been a wonderful relationship. She looks better with every passing year - okay, the user interface has improved every year. She gets smarter every year - well, the functionality and reviews are cleaner and crisper every year. And she knows me so very well - alright, the import functions and the guidance through the questions and categories improve every year. I suppose I'll soon be planning that silver anniversary trip - maybe we'll go to Paris ... :-) ...
What's great about it: Easy and Accurate Filing
What's not so great: Haven't found one yet ...
Pros: I moved

If you do not have a business (just salaries) it is very easy to do your taxes with Turbo Tax. If you have a small business it is still easy especially if you have a copy of Quickbooks
What's great about it: Simple and straightforward
