The Perfect Tax Preparer

This is my 7th year in a row using TurboTax to prepare all my taxes. It has always been quite easy to use and has become the perfect tax preparer.

TurboTax makes taxes easy - but it is not perfect

I've used TurboTax for years and mostly love it. The step by step instructions give me confidence that I will catch all the needed information. I have confidence in the results of TurboTax. My only complaint, for the last 3 years, is the limitations of the software to import the number of stock transactions for Form 8949. For this year, the IRS easily allows investors to "provide a statement" vs. describing each stock buy/sale but TurboTax limits the "total proceeds" to under 8 figures.
What's great about it: The step by step instructions
What's not so great: Limitations of transaction of form 8949 and Schedule D limitations

Love It!

In 5 minutes in my pajamas at the computer, I wrapped up my state refund what would've taken much longer the old way: printing documents (wasting ink and paper), finding a big envelope, signing a check, taking it to the post office, standing in line, getting a proof of postage. I've been using Quicken and TurboTax since 1998 and can't imagine life any other way.

easy to use

I have always had a challenging time doing my taxes. The math calculations alone would be enough to make me want to give up. Having a program do that part for me while prompting me to input accurate information makes this a little easier.
What's great about it: being guided through each step/does the calculations for me
What's not so great: sometimes cannot fully answer the questions; doesn't fit the situation exactly causing some confusion

better updates

I love Turbo Tax. My con is very specific for me. Long story but I received non-taxable third party sick pay. Because of this, my W2 has my income from them as zero. The program would not allow me to electronically file because of this. I called the IRS and the representitive said the IRS has no rule excluding it. It was a big nuisance, since I've filed electronically with this before.
What's great about it: I love the ease of Turbo Tax
What's not so great: Wasn't able to file electronically because of the program.
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I had a question as I was going through and it seems this year that feature was removed...yet the price for the services only seem to increase each year. Pretty soon, it will be no less expensive than going to a tax professional.
What's great about it: Online Updates
What's not so great: Now it cost to get help as you are going through your taxes.

Can't Save - Can't Print

Nice piece of software until one attempts to complete the process for documenting. The default Tax Return with major calculation worksheets will save as a pdf, but the pdf has two full sets of calculations embedded (twice the size). If one tries to save or print any other combination, the process fails. Rather frustrating.
What's great about it: Easy to work with
What's not so great: Save/Print capability
