I found this years TurboTax confusing with the questions asked regarding RMDs. Also no explanation regarding why the estimated sales tax was or was not taken. I felt confused this year in a way I had not experienced in previous years.

I don't live the open forum, no one answered my questions. I would like to have an 800 number where I could call a live person.

My Mac loves Turbo Tax

Have used it many years and love it. The guided process is great but I'm getting used to just picking where I need to go. Showing me last year's info is extremely helpful. I do wish I could skip some screens when I need to edit one part of a section. Also, it took me all the way through the e-file process and then said I was missing a tax ID from a 1099-R. Original review caught it, but I didn't have the ID so entered zeroes. It passed the exam tests, but then gave me a message when I tried to finish e-file. TT should have asked me to import it (option) at the time I said I had a 1099-R. Also, an alert or message saying I needed the tax ID (and it couldn't be zeroes) would have been nice. Overall, I'm very pleased with TT and always tell people I use it. Gee, I wonder how many have bought it upon my recommendation? That should be worth something. Oh well, if not, I'll just keep using it as it makes my life a bit easier. Larry B
What's great about it: Guides, automatic updates, easy to follow
What's not so great: Makes you go back through too many screens

Occasionally not completely clear questions, but sometimes neither are mine. {;-) That said, I think the confusion is driven by our sorry US tax code and changes thereto rather than TurboTax's articulation or the User Interface. TurboTax is a great value; money well spent for an exceptionally useful and very usable product with what appears to this end user to be continuous product improvement. See you next year!
What's great about it: Worth the price for the CONVENIENCE!
What's not so great: Some questions unclear.

I would recommend Turbo Tax to anyone who asks. I can't believe that people make appointments with tax preparers, and pay a high fee when they could do it themselves for the price of the software! Excellent product TurboTax Deluxe!
What's great about it: Love the step by step questions

Have been TurboTax Fan for Life

I have been using TurboTax Deluxe version for over 15 years. I only switched to another competitor for one year in between when Intuit made a very bad move to have online activation - only allow one copy of TurboTax being installed on one machine and for one filling. Intuit had since abolished that disastrous policy. But during that year, I also learned how badly the OTHER competitor’s product was designed.
I find TurboTax very easy to use, showing tax due or refunds instantly when you make an entry. Easy to import W-2 and stocks investments (I am a day trader). I also use it for my real estate investments. I can prepare my return in 1/2 day.
I have been audited by the IRS twice, but I just ignored them - you don't have to respond to them. Each time IRS will perform their own calculations and then tell me that I do not own them anything!
If there is one thing Intuit can make change to would be to also make state efiling free. Currently one can e-File the Federal for free but has to pay $19.99 for the state e-file. I just e-File to Federal and paper file the state. After all, the federal return contains the most pages (more paper, ink, and postages if one chooses to file by mail), while the state return usualy has only very few pages to mail - one or two postage stamp is enough.
Thanks Turbo Tax!
What's great about it: Very easy to use, almost no learning curve.
What's not so great: No FREE State e-Filing

12 years and still using Turbotax.

I have used TurboTax for over 12 years and am convinced of it's reliability and accuracy. If you have a simple return and follow the guidance through the return, it is fairly easy. If you have any issues, the "what's this" could use some additional clarity, particularly a linkage to the Form 1040 or other required IRS form. It would be helpful for a "walk through the Form 1040 as part of the review with additional questions as to whether the user has considered each of the entries.
What's great about it: Consistently accurate, relatively easy to use, good backups.
What's not so great: The "what's this" aren't always helpful.
Pros: I bought or sold investments
