Great service, painful desktop software

This year I had a 1099-B .txf file to enter. It was either buy the desktop TurboTax to be able to import the .txf, or enter 100s of lines manually into a frustrating line-by-line entry form on the web. So I bought the desktop version. No extra cost, but a silly extra step just to get the import option.
Alas, the desktop software is worse than the web version. It insists on updating on every launch, even though it must consult the web after every mouse click. Certainly it is as slow as the web version. Desktop software should feel snappy.
I entered all my taxes. The .txf import was buggy, I had to do it three times to be sure it worked right. Then the software gave an error that "the government wasn't ready" for me to e-file, or something like that. TurboTax promised to email me when "the government was ready" (I can't remember the phrasing). No email after two weeks.
Relaunched the app, and it wanted to update. It updated and...all my tax return info was gone. The only option was to import 2012 info, which was basically my home address. Redid ALL my taxes, suffered AGAIN the buggy .txf import walkthrough. Then the app refused to file because "updates were available". Had to look up online that if the old app is in the trash, it may prevent e-filing. Quit the app, emptied the trash, relaunched, filed my taxes. Thank goodness, the government was ready this time.
I'm very grateful to TurboTax, because tax returns are hideous. I'm sure the software spared me many headaches. But they should really just offer the full experience on the web (allow importing of forms like .txf) and not write buggy desktop software. I love the web version. Desktop version, go join your outdated siblings in the trash.

As good as ever...

I've used Turbotax for years. Sometimes I've had some minor glitches, but this year was a breeze. Everything went very smoothly, and I'm glad I used them again.
What's great about it: Easy, clear questions, helpful explanations
What's not so great: Asks too many times if you want to use them to file your state return

While Turbo Tax is very easy to use, navigating the software can be a bit tricky. Going back to change a number (on Sch. C, for example - to add a found receipt) can be an ordeal. Instead of being able to go directly to the input screen, you have to go through ALL of the steps/pages applicable to Sch. C. That being said, I believe that Turbo Tax is the best "lay person" tax software on the market. I have used it for years and hope to use it for many more!
What's great about it: The "Guide Me" option makes Turbo Tax very easy to use!
What's not so great: A basic knowledge of tax prep. is useful for navigation purposes.

As soon as I have all my forms and receipts ready (which seems to take forever), I sit down with Turbo Tax and it walks me through each step thoroughly! I love it!!! It is pretty much idiot proof! Thank you so much!!!!!
What's great about it: The way it just walked me thru each and every step!
What's not so great: I loved every minute!
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Keep up the good work

Overall, an excellent product that we use year after year. Program is intuitive and easy to use. One other tip. As my eyes age, I find very small fonts harder and harder to read. suggest enlarging them.
What's great about it: Straightforward, step-by-step
What's not so great: Not all forms (1098T) copied from last year

overall good product, not at all difficult to do, but the need to fix the transmission bug so you don't need to try it several times.
What's great about it: very simple instructions, not hard to navigate
What's not so great: had some issues getting it to file correctly
