Trouble E-Filing
on March 15, 2014

I've been using Turbo Tax for many years now. Everything works well and I like how thorough it is in walking me thru every aspect and deduction.
This year for some reason when I did my taxes for myself and my Mom it had difficulty e-filing at the end. It always said it did not go thru even though everything was updated. I finally had to restart my computer both times and come back to turbo tax before it finally sent out the returns successfully. This might be a bug that turbo tax needs to fix.
What's great about it: Ease of use, covers everything
What's not so great: Difficulty E-Filing, took multiple tries till it went through.

I've been doing my taxes with Turbo Tax for over 15 years now, and it has always been as easy as it can get, given our convoluted tax system. I intend to continue to use Turbo Tax.
What's great about it: Easy, accurate, comprehensive
What's not so great: nothing
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

Different

I was noticing the difference between the last few years. Its okay however on my state tax form there was a section that I was scratching my head trying to figure out what it was looking for. Finally figured it out. It was the tax exempt income for Arizona. Wasn't sure why it was saying it then I found it. Took me about 30 minutes to figure it out. Went to the help asking what is this and why do you need it, where do I find it? Somewhat helpful.
What's great about it: Somewhat easy
What's not so great: Need better assistance with definitions - easier- simple
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

I get a death benefit from ExxonMobil administered by Connecticut General and reported on Form 1099R.
There is a Gross Distribution & a Taxable amount reported on the Form 1099R.
It is NOT an IRA distribution, but Turbo Tax keeps trying to make it an IRA distribution & keeps asking about minimum distributions required for people over age 70 1/2.
Turbo Tax needs to modify its software for Form 1099R to accommodate Fortune 500 company defined benefits programs (retirement payments) & retirement payments made to surviving spouses under the defined benefits plan. These are not IRA distributions
What's not so great: 1099R

Thanks for keeping up with our governmental goofiness! You must have the patience of Saints.
What's great about it: Year to Year data transfer and related questions is a great help.
What's not so great: Nothing left to complain about except the taxes themselves.

Filing didn't work well
on March 15, 2014

The process of preparing tax return went about as well as you could hope. But when I went to file, it rejected my return because I needed to install updates first. I checked and did have updates. Applied and restarted, and went through the whole file process again. Rejected again. Check updates, and there's nothing available. Google pointed me towards Intuit instructions to completely uninstall, reinstall, reboot and try again. After doing all that (pain because this computer doesn't have a built-in optical drive) it did finally work. But filing has never been hard before, and that's most of the reason I've used TurboTax in the past.
What's great about it: Kept track of all the forms and how to fill them out
What's not so great: It didn't want to validate my return
