This is my third year doing TurboTax and it makes doing the returns easy. I have no negatives to report.
What's great about it: Doing the state return was a snap after federal was done
What's not so great: none

Many pages require me to scan to the bottom to click DONE or other buttons.
Also, if I go back several pages, I am required to answer some questions for a second time when I move ahead again.
I'm one of those guys known as "the friend or family member who prepares others returns" so I do this several times each year.
What's great about it: Better every year
What's not so great: Pages do not fit on my screen totally
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Disappointed with Turbotax

Got completely finished but Turbotax would not let me E-File. Stated that since I had a zero in box 1 of one of my W2 forms, had to print my return and physically mail it to Fed and State. I called the IRS and after 45 minutes I was told that they knew of no rule that prevented Turbotax to E-File based on a zero in box 1 of W2 form. I would like the money I spent for E-File to be refunded.
I been using TurboTax for 15 years. This is the first time I am disappointed.
What's great about it: Great product but would not let me e-file
What's not so great: Would not let me E-File

We filed married filing separately on a combined return on the Iowa 1040. The federal withholding for a spouse from Social Security benefits reported on form SSA-1099 is recognized as other federal income tax withholding and posts as being paid by "You or Joint" (Form IA 1040, Line 31 Smart Worksheet, Line H). It was correctly recorded on the Federal 1040 income worksheet. Per the Iowa 1040 instructions for Line 31, each spouse may claim only his or her own federal income tax withheld from wages. Although, Social Security benefits are not wages, the withholding was made from the spouse's benefits only. My husband's pension withholdings were only attributed to him. The same applied to my pension income from two other sources. Please check into to this issue.

I hope next year will be easier. Seems like I paid a lot extra for Turbo Tax after the initial CD expense. I'll be ready next year. Also seems like there shouldn't be an additional cost to e-file my state income tax if I'm mailing my tax payment separately & paid extra for the state tax form.
What's great about it: Saved lots of money on CPA
What's not so great: Additional cost after buying Turbo Tax Deluxe.
