I used another company's software before, but since first using turbotax about 8 years ago I wouldn't think of doing my taxes in any other way.
What's great about it: Thorough yet simple to use
What's not so great: None

Met all of my expectations.

For the past several years, I go thru the exercise of listing possible deductions only to find that I don't have enough and wind-up using the standard deduction. Can't you add a box to be checked that indicates I have had no life changing event in the past year and simply go right to the Standard deduction? Also, The IRS sends me the Form ES each year and its a waste of paper and printer ink when your software prints all this unnessary stuff.
What's great about it: Does all the calculations and saves a lot of time vs. manually preparing the 1040, etc.
What's not so great: Still trying to sell me up to the premier package.
Pros: I bought or sold investments

Making the Complex Easy and Clear
on March 13, 2014

Turbo Tax has saved my spring break again. Once I had collected all of the documents it was easy to complete my taxes. Many tax issues are very complex. The explanations in Turbo Tax were very sensible and easy to comprehend. If I had a question, I could click the "What's this" link and get enough information to decide if it applied to our situation.
What's great about it: Clear concise English, no Line 34a + 41c unless not equal to form 9988
What's not so great: Improve the tax planning

My wife's w-2 has for box 14 the categories WD/HC/FLI, Section 125, and 414(h) which the program doesn't recognize and I have to always go back and change it around until accepted. It would be appreciated if you would fix your categories to reflect these items the first time.
What's great about it: Covers Most Things
What's not so great: Can't Get Box 14 on W-2 Right

Redo the Print sections

The TurboTax pages dealing with printing returns continue to be confusing.
There should not be any "Print" buttons that don't actually print but instead open a print preview window. Re-label.
There should be an instruction that states that after you have selected what forms you want to print, you will then have to manually tell your printer to print. There doesn't seem to be a "Print" button in the Print Preview window.
In the print preview window, the main title for State should indicate that a copy of the Federal return will be included in the print job - to preclude printing another copy of the Federal return to be included with the State mailing.
Should be an easy option to not print the State Estimated tax forms. They print every time the State return is printed. Don't need multiple copies.
What's not so great: Difficult to figure out how to print just what I wanted. Wastes paper.
