Going in and out of guided mode is not as synchronized as it has been in the past. The program is very good at 'probing' the user to find all possible credits and properly report all liabilities. Most frustration this year was due to the lack of proper information on the 1099Misc filing requirements. It turns out that the IRS website instructions download for form 1099Misc. have, on the cover page, a notice that 1099Misc filing requirements for maintenance/repair costs during the year are for businesses only. That #confirmed to me by a tax specialist that I ended up calling# means that rental properties owned by individuals are not included in the filing requirements group and therefore individual fliers that own rental property do not have to file 1099Misc forms for 2013. According to the tax specialist, this will probably also be the case for 2014 and near future. Problem was that the program asked me if I had filed 1099Misc, implying that I had done something wrong by not filing them. I believe that simple explanation of filing requirements before the question would take care of the situation.
What's great about it: good information and tips available
What's not so great: not as easy to navigate as past versions

Needs improvement for people that receive foreign pensions and Social Security. Searched the internet and these questions came up quite a lot. There are many people in the United States that receive foreign pensions from former employment over seas and Social Security. Hopefully Turbo Tax will take this into consideration for next years software.
What's great about it: quick and easy to use
What's not so great: No option to enter foreign Social Security and pensions

Using Turbo Tax

I like using Turbo Tax. It is very easy and simple to use. I like the choice of your prompts to help complete forms or skipping and completing on your own. I like the review and risk factor. I have used Turbo tax for several years and recommend it to anyone. And love the free e-file.
What's great about it: Very easy to use and like the Audit risk factor.
What's not so great: Can be confusing for government retirees.Ask for W2 info, but gov retirees don't get W2, but get 1099R.

When you (or your spouse) go back to overview things the items that needed a box checked (usually yes or no) does not stay checked. You really need to stay on your toes to make sure it gets marked as intended.
What's great about it: Walking through all steps helps to remind you of something you forgot about.
What's not so great: Items do not always stay checked when you return.

I tried to use report data from Quicken 2013 to input into Turbo Tax but noticed some of the totals were way off. Quicken had duplicated many of my split entries. I am glad I noticed the problem before using that data in my tax return. What if I had imported the data without checking it? I have been using Quicken/TurboTax since they came out on floppy disks. This error of duplicated entries has shaken my confidence in your software.

Thanks INTUIT! Have been using TurboTax for years. While 2013 was one of my lowest refunds, I still have confidence that my returns are accurate and I had a comprehensive return filed. I recommend it to anyone who cares to listen. Thanks for the software to make preparing returns easy and taking the PAIN our of tax season!!!!
What's great about it: It's so easy. Love the comparison to last year.
What's not so great: I wish there were a window to ask questions without leaving a screen or topic.

Really dislike how it walks through the filing. I don't want to pay to efile for states, and it took a few minutes to figure out how to get to print the forms. Make it easier for us.
Also, It's Deductible is pretty weak. Need to explain up front the amounts will change when it's imported. I wasted time trying to figure out what happened. Needs better categories, could be expanded to cover more items. Pretty limited.
What's great about it: Easy to move within the program to different areas
What's not so great: Tries to guide you to efile, paper for states is a bit of a pain
